What is the primary concern? Theft protection? Keeping them away from curious children? Preservation of priceless/expensive guns in the event of a disaster? A cheap safe will keep a kid away from your guns*, but not so much a thief or a fire/flood.
*Owning a safe does not excuse you from teaching age appropriate gun safety.

Either some sort of compromised is reached or they don't go. If it's a one off thing on P-Day you might be able to get a temporary companionship swap approved (for the duration of the activity) if there is another Elder nearby who likes to run as well, but if you're talking morning exercise you can't exactly physically drag someone running with you. It can be kinda rocky, some missionaries are only learning interpersonal relationships skills where you are effectively tethered to an equal so not all of them are particularly good at compromise, all part of the learning experience.

I had a companion who wanted to run in the morning, but there was no physical way I could have kept up (he was in shape, I was not). I did exercises at the end of the driveway while he basically did laps in the cul-de-sac we lived on. *shrug* For P-Day activities, on my mission, leadership was generally liberal with allowing P-Day companionship swaps so that people could do what they wanted to do. They were also okay with having odd-numbered groups for P-day activities, So if you had 3 companionships with 3 missionaries who wanted to bike and 3 who wanted to run you'd just end up with two groups of three missionaries while they did their thing. If leadership was less liberal about changing up companionships temporarily or if missionaries had been further spread out then you're back to learning to compromise.

Much like you'd expect the military to spell colonel like it's pronounced...

That was my first thought, sometimes setting boundaries means the other party is offended/miffed/hurt. The key is that you set them fairly and present them with compassion.

Since I know everyone was waiting with 'bated breath, German Christmas Eve turned out okay. We're holding off on dessert as Beefche isn't feeling well and my rouladen skills could use some refinement but all in all I call it a success.

This year's Christmas Eve will be Germany. We'll be making rinderrouladen with rotkraut and bratäpfel for desert (recipes are untested).

I pronounce it akin to "Sure, Bert." Funnily sorbet gets the frenchified pronunciation.

2ndRateMind, I like you man, but several people have been trying to direct you to:

    c. They believe the redistribution of wealth and effort should be made voluntarily and not by governmental decree and enforcement.

Now it's fine if you don't like that option for whatever reason, but don't ignore it. The disagreement isn't fundamentally about if a more egalitarian world would be better (though there are still those who would argue the specifics), but in how to go about realizing that world. It seems to me you feel that it must be done by government taxation and action to such a degree that when people are disagreeing with government taxation and action you automatically conclude they disagree with a goal of a more egalitarian world.

Note, it's perfectly legitimate to argue and disagree with the how, just don't confuse it for the what.

I wouldn't accept it.  Is he a potential business associate?  No reason to accept it.  I know you think you are trying to make the right decision here.  You can forgive without accepting the Linkedin invite.   You can leave the badness in the past by deciding to do so.  Believe me he didn't send the linkedin invite hoping you would accept and forgive.

The recipe I've found is essentially pickle, onion, mustard, bacon, salt, pepper, and beef.

We'll be making it from scratch. Due to Beefche not wanting to use red wine we found a recipe that doesn't call for it, I don't know just how authentic a red wine free version will be (quite  a few of the recipes I found called for it) but hopefully it'll turn out okay. You say it tastes best  the next day? Maybe I'll have to make it tomorrow in preparation for Christmas Eve so it can have a night in the fridge.

The physical understanding available to Joseph Smith at the time would have been Newtonian in nature. Even if you want to argue for increased understanding due to revelation it's likely a 'Newtonian filter' would have been at play. Of course, this is even assuming he was trying to describe a physical system at all, which as you point out may not be a valid assumption at all.

As far as receiving and giving gits I tend towards smaller, more numerous, thoughtful gifts rather than large grand gifts*. I react primarily to the thought involved and when I'm out shopping and buy Beefche some minor nicknack or treat the primary message I'm trying to convey is, "You weren't with me but I was thinking of you."

*Not that I'd turn down a new car if one of you wants to give me one.
