  1. DW and I were having a very rough time not too long after we were sealed and I was seriously wondering if we had not made a mistake by being sealed to each other as at that point in time we were not sure we wouldn't be getting a divorce. We were in Utah and at Temple Square talking with a young Sister missionary (just tour stuff, nothing about our problems) when she said she wanted to share a verse of scripture with us. 2nd Nephi 31:20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life. The anger we had been feeling towards each other melted from both of us at that instant. That was over 15 years ago and we're still together and happy. Don't even try to tell me you can't receive inspiration from the Holy Ghost, thankfully that young Sister Missionary listened and acted.
  2. There was a spot to put a comment at the end Here is what I put: Too many people spend too much time on this. The Celestial Kingdom is about Joy and no one will be forced to live a principle they don't agree with or don't understand. IF this is a principle in the Celestial Kingdom then you will both understand it and embrace it if you are in the C.K. Do you think the C.K. is for pissed off people that hate what they have to do there? I am sure we will all have a lot to learn after we 'pass the veil' about a great many things.
  3. Not really sure whether to laugh at that one or gasp in horror. You must have had scary Nuns teaching you.
  4. The Roger Whitaker album was great - The Last Farewell is a classic. I bought it off the same TV ad (But I was an adult by then). Never did get into Englebert.
  5. Its the Spirit of that saying that I disagree with. And anyone in the Church that makes that statement is ignorant of the Doctrine of Eternal Progression. I agree that IF we endure to the end and IF after that we learn all the lessons we need to in order to become like Heavenly Father then we will have the opportunity to create worlds and populate them. Those are some pretty big 'ifs' but some will make it (will everyone? well we do have all of eternity to do it) any way the statement 'we get our own planet when we die' doesn't even come close to explaining the doctrine of Eternal Progression. That particular statement is designed to show arrogance and cause others to think we are blaspheming. I guess the answer to your question is Yes, but if we reach that level, I do not believe it will be just one planet, as H.F. states in scripture that he has 'worlds without number' As L Tom Perry said from https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1997/10/receive-truth?lang=eng&query=zoologyWe've got a lot to learn before we even come close to creating our own worlds.
  6. That's not it at all. Its the fact that that particular statement (which I have never heard in Church and I doubt very many have ever heard it put exactly like that) is designed to shock people and does not explain what it means "to inherit all the father has' Even the quotes Elphaba quoted do not make that particular statement and if read in context go a long ways in an explanation of what they mean.. I stand by my statement, and agree with churches statement: Edited to add: and I agree whole-heartedly with Finrocks post below
  7. Its funny because after over 20 years in the Church and over a year before that investigating, I have never heard a member state that 'we get our own planet' I have only read it from Anti-LDS sources. I understand the 'Inherit all the Father has' doctrine, but to turn that into 'You get your own planet when you die' is mistaken at best and deceitful at worst and designed to shock rather than enlighten. Anti-Mormons with their deceitful sayings and their 'shock-appeal', did more to get me into the Church than the missionaries ever did, because I studied actual doctrine and proved the Anti's wrong, leaving me with the Truth. Besides I want my own Universe, not just a planet
  8. I cancelled my families Church yesterday, it was sleeting when I went out to warm up the car and the whole thing was covered with a thin layer of ice with more sleet coming down. I asked DW to come to the door and we made a family decision together No one official called to call it off, so I assume it was held but to me my families safety comes first. Could we have made it? probably, but as hard as it was coming down my feeling was better safe than sorry, we held our own Gospel time.
  9. Having had the afternoon hours for Church 3 years in a row now, about the time that we are taking the Sacrament, the Ward before ours is having their RS/Priesthood meetings. The Priesthood holds their opening exercises in the Cultural Hall right behind the Chapel, so we hear them singing their opening hymn. My wife often refers to the all male voices singing as "Our Mormon Monks"
  10. I call Q of 12 members Elder and FP members President. Now if Pres Monson wrote something as an Elder I would say 'Then Elder Monson of the Twelve', or 'then President of the Q of 12 President Monson'
  11. I almost never go to viewings, been to maybe 4 in my lifetime (3 while under 21) - last one was my FiL, they had him made up so awfully he looked like a cartoon character - just reinforced my opinion of viewings. The 'spirit' is gone, why visit an empty shell?
  12. That's YOUR opinion, it is NOT the opinion of many in this thread including me. People do have different opinions you know, and that doesn't make them wrong.
  13. Did you work for a non-profit that's only income was through soliciting donations? or did your company actually make or sell something, or offer a service? Cause theres a BIG difference in many of our minds between the two.
  14. -Executive Secretary -- NO!!! its a thankless job, you are the one person no one wants to see walking their way or on their caller id. Brother M, our last Ward scoutmaster (now age 71) had the calling 22 years, his assistant scout master of 12 years recently took over (about 2 years ago). And that's really how it should be if you have a good scout leader. Brother M thought he was going to die with the calling, but his assistant is so good he didn't have to.
  15. There is a BIG difference between a corp executive of a company making something or selling something and a non-profit organization that's only income is from soliciting donations. To say the two are equal is ridiculous.
  16. Yes, paid for with the BSA account.
  17. My ward does, we always donate to both YW's and Scouts for their camps. Its what the Other line is for on a tithing slip. The Bishopric takes the total cost of YW's or Scouts camp - subtracts the donations and the fund raising money then divides by the number of girls/boys going to get their final per youth cost. We also have a number of people that will pay for a girl or boy to go for those that their family can not afford it.
  18. If people knew how Friends of Scouting funds were spent they would never support them. My wife's company books travel arrangements for the various big shots in their councils offices. Always First Class flights, 4 Star Hotels, expensive rentals. Its not about scouting, its about supporting an expensive lifestyle. They will never get a penny from me for 'Friends of Scouting' Support the local troops, but not the fat cats.
  19. Blasphemy! Mushrooms belong on almost everything: burgers, omelets, pasta of all forms, soups, the list is endless. As far as burgers: I love one with pepper jack cheese, fried onion strings, bacon and either chipolte ketchup or bbq sauce. As far as In-n-Out been there once and will never ever go back -- burger was sub par even for a fast food joint, fries were Terrible with a capital T, service was extremely slow and packaging was ridiculous.
  20. But those construction workers and building managers and janitors, etc have to eat, so they buy food locally at grocery stores or restaurants which employ people, and they have to have clothes which they also have to buy once again employing people, cars to drive, places to live, money flowing out from this project, one former President called it 'Trickle Down Economics' And this multi-million dollar project is not stopping any of the millions and millions we give away every year to: disaster victims, food kitchens, poor and needy, projects all over the world, and that doesn't even mention the millions (perhaps billions?) of man hours donated every year to many worthy causes. Do you know we call doctors and dentists, nurses and teachers, engineers and farmers on missions too? Not to Proselyting missions, but missions where they use their skills to help and to build and to teach others. Have you heard of the Perpetual Education fund, educating the poor to help them get good jobs to raise them out of poverty? I just don't understand how anyone could possibly complain about the Church creating jobs.
  21. Sounds like you have already discussed many good things with your girlfriend and from what you have said appear to be on the same page. Keep in mind that being LDS is not just something you do on Sundays, its a lifestyle. Having said all that, only you and she can decide.
  22. I don't believe it is possible to stop it, nor do I think it should be stopped. The Church (and many others) may need to get out of the marriage business altogether at some point in the future as I see the day coming that anyone providing marriage services would have to marry gays. Luckily we have Sealing's to fall back upon when/if that happens.
  23. I can see where you could interpret it as GB-UK does. I don't tithe that way personally, but I would never condemn anyone else's method for how they figure tithing. Rather than many of you trying to tell GB-UK how wrong he is, why not leave it between Him and the Lord as the First Presidency has said to do?
