  1. I knew someone who had a problem with masturbation. He started it in his teenage years and it took him many years to overcome it. The process of healing may be long but those who endure with faith in Christ clinging fast to the word of God will overcome. Read thru this thread and take a lot of the advice to heart.
  2. You should have at least six months worth of income set aside for an emergency fund. I would also be setting aside at least ten percent of your income for retirement. A simple cash flow plan is the 70, 10, 10, 10 rule. 10 percent of your income to the Lord. 10 percent of your income to savings. 10 percent of your income for whatever you want. 70 percent of your income to live off of. You can make adjustments to this cash flow plan as you wish. If you could live off of 65 percent of your income and give 15 percent to the Lord do so.
  3. For anyone interested I found the full cannon of scripture and I now have it downloaded to my hard drive. I can electronic mail it to anyone interested. It is only about 30 megabytes in total file size and is just the text (no footnotes). I can break it up in pieces so you can get it. Just send me a personal message with your electronic mail address.
  4. I used to say: "Oh my gosh!" But a few times I said that someone mistook the gosh for taking the Lord's name in vain. I now say: "Oh my heck," instead. Hopefully one day I will get such control of my tongue that I won't curse at all. As it reads in James Chapter 3: "Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body . . . Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth." -- James 3:3 & 5
  5. I read somewhere that ties were used as napkins at formal meals.
  6. I am not an actor, I do warehouse work for a living.
  7. Being a full tithe payer is one of the requirements to get a temple recommend. Some people worry about not having tithed in the past. I like the counsel to start doing it now and continue to do so. Don't worry about the past and what you haven't paid.
  8. I am also not fond of ties. Ties were originally used as napkins and now I believe they are a noose (a hangman's noose). I try to wear one every Sunday though to show respect to Heavenly Father.
  9. One definition of religion is: a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. Directors who make movies showing graphic sex scenes do not believe that sex is a sacred gift from God, if so they do not think it harms society to watch something like this.
  10. Ha! I like that one. "That really frosts my cake!" I think I'm going to use that one in the future. I also sometimes use: "Dash it all!"
  11. As Loudmouth_Mormon stated I believe it is three steps in spiritual progression: Faith leads to hope, and hope progresses into charity (the pure love of Christ).
  12. Well Rachelle, sometimes movies can be pretty sneaky about slipping graphic sex scenes in. I watched the Band of Brothers series and they slipped one in the 8th movie. It shows a soldier walking thru rooms and then all of a sudden he walks in on something inappropriate. That's when I fumble for the remote or switch off the television.
  13. If you have found a religious belief that brings you close to God I commend you. But I have had more than just personal feelings as a witness that Jesus Christ leads the prophet of our church. The teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are not contrary to the primitive teachings of Christ's church when He organized it Himself on the earth about 2,000 years ago. I invite you to explore and read teachings from www.LDS.org to find out what we truly believe.
  14. I hope your visits here are profitable. Welcome!
  15. There was a local restaurant in my area that promoted a large Easter Egg hunt on Saturday and many showed up. There were not enough eggs hidden for the hunt so many kids ended up with nothing after the hunt. It was bummer for the kids. Thankfully my kids didn't go.
  16. I was praying for Captain Phillips. I am glad the Lord answered my prayer and that he is able to safely return to loved ones' arms.
  17. I am glad Mel Gibson did release the film despite its shortcomings. Many movies reflect who controls Hollywood presently and are simply not worth seeing.
  18. There were some good points made in the movie the Passion of the Christ. One major disappointing factor was the 60 second clip of the Resurrection and the unbalanced focus on His mother Mary. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ was very important. Why would you only show a one minute clip of this in a 126 minute film?
  19. In the Garden of Eden God gave Adam and Eve clothes when He drove them out into the world. We as Latter-Day Saints believe that hasn't changed. Men and women should dress in modest apparel. Sexual relations are sacred and should only be used between a lawfully wedded husband and wife and should be kept private. A lot of material that comes out of Hollywood is bothersome to me. Chastity is seen as unneccessary or do live it if it's what you prefer. We could wipe out all sexually transmitted diseases in the world if people would obey the laws God has given us.
  20. Anyone watch the New Easter Video posted at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Internet site? It is right on the main page presently.
  21. I was married by a preacher in Reno, Nevada before I sealed to my wife exactly one year later in the Salt Lake Temple. Many people I'm sure thought it was because we doing things together that were unchaste. That wasn't the reason. Set a goal for yourself to get sealed to in one year. Advice on a wedding dress: buy a nice used one. A warning that there are just so many immodest wedding dresses these days. I would look on E-bay and find a place near you that you can go and examine the dress and try it on before buying. Congratulations!
  22. I would encourage you to read the books of Abraham and Moses. They are powerful books that contain many plain and precious truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ in them. It is comforting for me to know that some knew of the mission Jesus Christ would perform in mortality long before He came to the earth in the flesh.
  23. The Miracle of Forgiveness is a very good book. I don't remember Spencer Kimball writing anything about cunnilingus or fellatio in the book (using other terms for the act). One word of advice, if you start the book don't quit halfway thru. Read thru it all the way. The first half seems more focused on justice and the second half on mercy.
  24. It appears reading the past letter that Spencer Kimball's opinion was against a lawfully married couple engaging in cunnilingus or fellatio in the privacy of their bedroom. I did not know that. I wonder why he thought it was unnatural and a sin?
  25. I have no recollection that the church has taught anything about what goes on in the privacy of a married couples' bedroom other than let the Holy Spirit guide. The teachings you refer to were speaking to unmarried men and women. "For example, as you date and hang out, even when you feel there is a growing foundation of love in a relationship, show your profound respect for that love—and for the doctrines about eternal love and family life—by bridling your passions. Don’t be deceived by the false idea that anything short of the sex act itself is okay. That is a lie, not only because one step overpoweringly leads to another, but because even touching another person’s body with sexual intent is part of the intimacy that is kept holy by the sanctuary of chastity. Please also beware of unnatural sexual acts that are just as immoral, if not worse, than traditional fornication or adultery. If for any reason you think you may have dashed your own hopes by a past mistake, I testify of the power of Christ’s Atonement when coupled with honest repentance."
