  1. Interesting how I started this topic and where it has drifted to. Let me add one point. There is no official Latter-Day Saint doctrine on what an intelligence is. It is all speculation as it has not been revealed. Bottom line with our doctrines is they are either inspired words spoken by the prophets of God, or they are man made doctrines. I have studied and prayed and come to the conclusion that Latter-Day Saint doctrine is truth and we have prophets and seers leading the church according to will of God.
  2. President Hinckley was very successful during mortality. He was a powerful example of integrity and of what a follower of Christ should be. I am thankful to Heavenly Father that He calls another prophet when one passes out of this life. I am happy that President Hinckley does not have to be without his beloved wife anymore. He made great contributions to the work of the Lord.
  3. This is what I understand concerning tax burdens on business. There is no such thing as taxes on a business. The business takes the tax burden and raises the prices on their products and shifts the burden to the consumer.
  4. Anyone ever tried this product? They claim to be able to sharpen your razor blades over and over again. Does it really work as they claim? Anyone tried it? https://www.officialtvwebsite.com/saveablade/index.asp?did=644&refcode=sab1
  5. Thanks for all the responses. I read some commentary on Malachi 3:1 and it says this: The messenger sent to prepare the way before the Savior's Second Coming could refer to any or all of the following: John the Baptist; Peter, James and John, or the Prophet Joseph Smith.
  6. What does this scripture mean? Malachi chapter 3 1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. Who is the messenger the Lord is talking about in this scripture?
  7. The Romans were not guilty of Christ's blood because they were not the cause of His execution. Those who had wilfully rejected Him and sought for Christ's death were guilty of His blood. I support the death penalty because of the scriptures I have read that support it. I will quote one: Alma Chapter 1 12 But Alma said unto him: Behold, this is the first time that priestcraft has been introduced among this people. And behold, thou art not only guilty of priestcraft, but hast endeavored to enforce it by the sword; and were priestcraft to be enforced among this people it would prove their entire destruction. 13 And thou hast shed the blood of a righteous man, yea, a man who has done much good among this people; and were we to spare thee his blood would come upon us for vengeance. 14 Therefore thou art condemned to die, according to the law which has been given us by Mosiah, our last king; and it has been acknowledged by this people; therefore this people must abide by the law. 15 And it came to pass that they took him; and his name was Nehor; and they carried him upon the top of the hill Manti, and there he was caused, or rather did acknowledge, between the heavens and the earth, that what he had taught to the people was contrary to the word of God; and there he suffered an ignominious death. There are also other scriptures some already quoted in this thread that support capital punishment: Genesis 9:6 II Nephi 9:35 Doctrine & Covenants 42:19
  8. It took me several months, but I got to 9,999,990 points in Super Mario World. Once the score gets this high it just freezes and doesn't go any higher. Check out my screen shot: SuperMarioWorld.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Yes, I must admit, I have to be careful what video games I buy because I get addicted.
  9. I know someone who made a commitment to give $1,000 extra in offerings over their tithing. They kept giving more to fast offerings, humanitarian fund and other monies to the church which eventually totalled $1,000. A few years later, some stock they had bought for $3,000 increased in value to about $9,000.
  10. The parable in the Inspired Version of Matthew chapter 22 is a little different: 1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, 2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, 3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. 4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. 5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. 7 But when the king heard that his servants were dead, he was wroth; and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. 9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. 10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen, wherefore all do not have on the wedding garment.
  11. The Romans used crucifixion on tens of thousands of people. When a rebellion of ten of thousands of slaves happened in the Roman Empire with Sparticus, the uprising was eventually crushed. The roadsides were then lined with thousands of slaves on crosses. There were many such incidents in the history Roman Empire. It was quite brutal.
  12. We can look to the parable Christ taught in Matthew chapter 25 for an answer to this question. One servant did better than the other but both accomplished what they could according to their abilities. The master did not condemn the man who had only gained two talents compared to the servant who made five talents profit. Some of us bring forth ". . . an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold." (Matthew 13:8) We are expected to live as if we are debtors to Christ if He will make intercession for us on Judgment Day. As the Apostle Paul taught: "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?" "Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Romans 6:1-4 (New King James Version)
  13. God can add to His word whenever He wants to. I am convinced that not all the Joseph Smith Translations were restoration of the scriptures to their original state. I think some of the Holy Spirit inspired text Joseph Smith added is God adding to His own word. It is amazing how well preserved the New Testament text is. I am more concerned with what has been removed from Biblical text than what is there. Most of text removal occurred in the Old Testament books I believe.
  14. Another of these warnings is found in Proverbs chapter 30: 5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
  15. Some people aren't obviously aren't reading the whole post. Read post 11. Modern scripture and the prophets have taught that Christ sweat blood in Gethsemane. It is official church doctrine. It's also written in the following canonized scriptures: Luke 22:44 Doctrine & Covenants 19:16-19 Mosiah 3:7
  16. One of the most misinterpreted passages of scripture is Revelation chapter 22 verses 18 to 20: “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: “ “And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Many read these scriptures and interpret the meaning to be that this is the last book of scripture God would give to us and that there would no more given. The true meaning of these verses is a warning to all men. We are warned to not alter the scripture God reveals to us through His holy prophets. As the Apostle Peter wrote: “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scriptures is given of any private will of man. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” II Peter Chapter 1 verses 20-21 Inspired Version Around the year 80 A.D. (when the book of Revelation was recorded) copies of scripture were rare. If one wanted a copy of scripture they would have to painstakingly write the text out by hand. The inspired warning John wrote especially applied to those who copied what was written to not add or remove from the inspired text.
  17. I received many blessing in my life after getting my endowment. The temple truly is a place the Lord visits. As we visit it more, we will find ourselves drawn more to the Savior.
  18. The most important of the plain and precious things removed from the books of the Bible were the truths about Christ from the Old Testament. Read the book of Moses in the Pearl of Great Price and compare that to Genesis. The book of Moses is a far more powerful witness of Christ than the book of Genesis. God in His mercy gave us part of this book back by revelation to Joseph Smith.
  19. I have the same opinion as James E. Talmage. He wrote that the atonement of Christ began in Gethsemane and He paid the full debt for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. "[While on the cross] At the ninth hour, or about three in the afternoon, a loud voice, surpassing the most anguished cry of physical suffering issued from the central cross, rending the dreadful darkness. It was the voice of the Christ: " . . . My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" What mind can fathom the significance of that awful cry? It seems, that in addition to the fearful suffering incident to crucifixion, the agony of Gethsemane had recurred, intensified beyond human power to endure. In that bitterest hour the dying Christ was alone, alone in most terrible reality. That the supreme sacrifice of the Son might be consummated in all its fulness, the Father seems to have withdrawn the support of His immediate Presence . . ." (Jesus the Christ, pages 660-661) Christ's final words on the cross were, "It is finished. Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit." He then bowed His head, and voluntarily gave up His life.
  20. I had problems getting in to the new website as well. My problems are all resolved for the moment. I made a new name and contacted the moderators about my problem. They had it fixed in several hours.
  21. I started out at mormonapologetics.org then transferred to LDSforums.com and now I've been teleported here. Married in the Salt Lake Temple to my bride in 2002 and we now have three children (but living over 1,000 miles away from Salt Lake City now). My youngest son was just born December 20th 2007. Currently studying to become a Computer Technician someday. Hope to have some good discussions with others about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  22. Modern revelation also leaves no doubt about Jesus' sufferings in Gethsemane: Mosiah chapter 3 7 And lo, he shall suffer temptations, and pain of body, hunger, thirst, and fatigue, even more than man can suffer, except it be unto death; for behold, blood cometh from every pore, so great shall be his anguish for the wickedness and the abominations of his people. Anyone can correct me if I am wrong. I find it interesting also that it is only recorded twice in the New Testament Gospels about Christ shedding blood: John chapter 19 34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. Luke chapter 22 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
  23. An angel appeared and strengthened Jesus while in Gethsemane. Perhaps the angel also took care of the blood that would have stained Christ's raiment. The recorded testimonies (gospels) are also far from being a perfect record. Christ was scourged and there is no mention in the New Testament of His blood staining His raiment as they lead Him out to be crucified. Certainly Jesus was bleeding after being whipped by a scourge 39 times.
