The Nehor's Achievements

  1. The kind that wishes she hadn't married this guy and want him far away from the house and kids.
  2. When I'm older I'd like to be a Mission President. I don't get why anyone would want to be Bishop or Elder's Quorum President or any of the rest. Who wants to deal with all that paperwork and hours of meetings......maybe it's better than being a counselor though as you get to make the decisions.
  3. I just want to teach. Gospel Essentials and Gospel Doctrine.
  4. 1. False 2. Speculation 3. False, one can't read the Journal of Discourses without getting a strong sense that Brigham Young in particular believed that righteousness was required, not many wives. 4. True, but it applies only to unmarried women and MEN that take no thought for marriage and do not seek it.
  5. Many secular translations of religious and quasi-religious texts are still translated into King James English. On my bookshelf behind me my copy of the translations of the Dead Sea Scrolls are written in Jacobean English as is my copy of Josephus, both of which were translated in this edition within the last 40 years. I expect if God had the Book of Mormon translated this year by an educated scholar it would also be in King James English.
  6. Thanks, you've given me some ideas on long term goals. My main goal right now is to kill the last of my education debt and plan to have it dead by February (by pouring every spare cent I have at it). I made a resolution to keep living like a college student until the debt I got was gone. Then start socking away money for a house in a few years.
  7. When referring to the book the Gospel Teacher I respect the most used this intro, "In Mormon Doctrine, which is not doctrine......"
  8. I think the best decision is to release each other from all obligations to each other for the two years. Then see how you stand when you get home. By all means, you should write them. Being in a Singles ward for a long time and having served a Mission I've seen a lot of heartbreak. Missionaries crushed when despite vows of fidelity their girl back home 'cheats' on them. Girls bitter when they waited for two years and the Missionary comes home and has changed and has lost interest.
  9. In my experience most people who request endless blessings are relying on others, not on God. I think the best counsel would be for them to pray on their own for further comfort. Saul had his failings but he still tried to hold on to a connection to God through Samuel. This got so bad that once Samuel was dead Saul tried to summon him from the dead rather than pray to God.
