  1. Welcome... as you noted, there is a lot of love and support from LDS members her on LdsNet. It sounds as though you have quite the busy life keeping up with callings and family. tDMg LdsNana
  2. May I simply add to the conversation, just a bit more at this point - Whenever a people were prepared and willing to receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ, here upon the earth - God has made it available. The apostasy which followed the death of Jesus Christ, and ultimately His chosen servants - came about, because the members of the Church rejected the words, authority and true doctrinal teachings of living prophets of God. As each prophet died, or was killed - eventually, God did not fill that position in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. God is a great respector of individual agency. The entire plan of salvation is based on this great principle of our willingness to receive His word... Should we not rejoice in the calling of Apostles and Prophets today - which sends a most wonderful message to all the world - that a people are upon the earth that are willing to receive His power, word and authority from these mere men, which He has called and given unto us! Thus, the sacred experience that was the process of the recent solemn assembly - to sustain a living prophet of God! The years following the death of the Savior, as even during His life; came the great philosophers of the world and their teachings, which became mingled with the teachings of the true church... The natural man, will always prefer the soothing philosophies of men, versus the laws and commandments of God. Simply put - God did not take away His priesthood, nor was it lost - but was rejected by those who made covenants to follow His prophets, as well as - others were not interested in it either, as the doctrines now had become corrupt... and lost their power to bring people unto Christ. Thus - there was no longer the ability to administer the true gospel on the earth any longer at that time... This had nothing to do with God taking it or deciding to not administer His Gospel whatsoever. God can only give, to those willing to receive - this is an eternal law! tDMg LdsNana
  3. M. Russell Ballard talk on Motherhood and particularly his focus on young mothers... He said... all are beloved of God. *There is no role in life more essential and more eternal than that of motherhood. *Choice in motherhood are different for all women... some may need to work a portion of the time when children are young... keeping with the devotion and love for their children, above all else. *If a child lives with parents or 18 to 19 years... the child's life, this represents 1/10th of the total time of their lives... teach them all that we can before they leave our homes *mothers and fathers equal responsibility *He believes that the mother primarily is responsible for the nurture of their children... motherhood and putting children first can be difficult! *Mother's emotions that accompany her commitment to mother.. mothers may feel that they receive little or no appreciation... husbands don't always seem to recognize the contribution of their wife's Elder Ballard proceeds to ask and answer four question: 1. Q - what can you do as a young mother to reduce the pressure and enjoy your family first? *Joy of motherhood comes in moments,... there will be shining moments in the process! Biggest mistake... I did not live in the moment and the moment passes and cannot be gotten back. *Wished he personally had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing... *Don't over schedule yourself or your children. many options to engage ourselves and children... pressure for parents to do a lot with and 'for' their children! *Families need unstructured time when parenting can take place. *As you try to cut out the extras... find time for yourself, pick out one or two things you enjoy doing and cultivate these. You must be replenished, so that you have to give. *Avoid any kind of substance abuse thinking it will help you to accomplish more. Don't let your time be taken up by T.V. or surfing the net. *Pray deeply and study the gospel... seek inspiration for your responsibility 2. What more can a husband do to support his wife in the nurture of the children, *notice things and say thank you often, have a regular time to talk with your wife about each child. *give your wife a day away every once in a while *come home from work and take an active role with your families... 3. What can children, even young children do? *simple things you can do to help your mother *pick up toys when done *make bed *help with dishes without being asked to help *say thank you when a meal or story has been provides, clean clothes in your drawer *put your arms around your mother and tell her that you love her 4. What can the church do? *many things, *He suggest that bishoprics, and ward counsels are aware of what they are being asked to do at this time in their life *behold i say unto you.... are great things brought to pass *hopes all of the dear sisters married or single... feel loved, respect, appreciate the influence in protecting the family... *family is central to the creators plan to the eternal destiny of God's Children... prepare together now to be together eternally *God to continually bless the women in the church to find and understand the calling of motherhood Remarks about President Thomas S. Monson... *has known since he was 22... *watch the lord prepare him for this Day, *and adds his testimony that he is a prophet of God, divine calling *that Jesus is the Christ and this is his Church, *we are doing his work of which he testified. These are my simple notes, until text is available - perhaps this will help others recall this wonderful talk that he delivered about mothers:-) tDMg LdsNana (I am sure I missed a million things, but some of you will remember others from you notes, etc...)
  4. I just want to say about the work on YouTube that lds9999 is doing - it is awesome! I have been using his videos to help with sharing the gospel online for the last few months. If any of you have websites or personal blogs of any kind - you will definitely want to go over and grab the appropriate YouTube video from lds9999. He has done an outstanding job putting these videos about the Gospel together and making them available to all of us. I don't know what I would do without this aid for teaching and sharing the Gospel. lds9999, you know that I think you rock! I thank you for the work you are doing online, to SHARE THE GOSPEL! I like to post a few videos about the Gospel with every post or article that I write over on HubPages. I am convinced that these videos that are made available to us - increase our personal power in sharing the gospel with others.... Sharing the gospel online is a combined efforts of all that each one of us have to offer unto the Lord! I am so thankful for all those who provide wonderful blogs and websites of which I love linking to. If you have a blog, etc... I would love to know about it! Thank you soooo much lds9999, my cyber-companion:-) tDMg LdsNana
  5. I thank Elder Holland for his relentless teaching, with clarity - the doctrines and beliefs of the LDS Church. Last conference he gave us the great doctrinal teaching of the Godhead. This conference, we now have excellent teaching on the importance of the Bible; the justification and need for modern scripture; and the very real and necessary part that living prophets and personal revelation add to the total ability to witness of Jesus Christ! It is becoming more and more clear, that The Book of Mormon, as "another witness of Jesus Christ" is imperative in bearing witness of Jesus Christ today. I recently had a conversation with a very intelligent man, who wrote an extensive article about 'why' we needed to cast off the Old Testament in the Bible. He cited many renowned scholarly references, who are advocating for this move. Apparently, it is becoming more agreed upon in general Christianity - that the Old Testament is just that... old! It is felt, that the laws, etc... of the Old Testament - do not speak to Christians of today. Hence, get rid of them! This is a real movement and one to be taken seriously by all. I felt to tell him how grateful I was for the coming forth of The Book of Mormon, as Another Testament of Jesus Christ. We purport that the Book of Mormon stands along side the Bible in bearing testimony of Jesus Christ. I had an epiphany as I was passionately explaining this to him,and went on to write - that surely the wisdom of God foresaw such a time, when the Book of Mormon would not only witness "with" the Bible as another same witness that He lives; but that it would literally stand up "for" its holy record and witness! Both The Book of Mormon and The Holy Bible, each - contain the fullness of The Gospel. The law of witnesses requires two complete testimonies to fulfill the law! Without the coming forth of The Book of Mormon today... the Bible would stand alone in testimony of Jesus Christ, and be in true jeopardy of being squelched as a complete record. The stick of Joseph and Judah are now together in the hand as one powerful witness, proclaiming that Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world! The law of witnesses, which God himself declared in the "Old Testament" cannot be refuted... no matter how loud 'man' becomes! Thank you Elder Holland for your great and profound prophetic teaching to us, the Saints - who desire to testify with power, the things of God and the truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ this DAY! tDMg LdsNana The Most Correct Book Of Any On Earth... 6. Also for anyone interested in the history of the female membership of the Church, and our involvement with Solemn Assemblies... here is the first time ever, that the Relief Society and the Young Women were designated as separate groups and stood to vote in that body of women.... This was the 1995, Solemn Assembly - when Gordon B. Hinckley was sustained as the President and Prophet of the Church. Thomas S. Monson conducted this solemn assembly... 1995 First time in the history of the LDS Church... "Will all members of the Relief Society—that is, all women eighteen years of age and older—please arise. It is proposed that Gordon Bitner Hinckley be sustained as prophet, seer, and revelator and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, together with his counselors and members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as previously presented and voted upon. All in favor, please indicate by the uplifted hand. Thank you. Any opposed may so indicate it. You may be seated. Will the young women—that is, all young women ages twelve to eighteen—please arise. The female organizations of the Church are companion groups, with those of the Priesthood - in building up the Kingdom of God on earth. tMDg LdsNana
  7. I expect there are many who would like to understand more about what a Solemn Assembly is and why and when we call them. I hope this Ensign article excerpt helps. The link to the entire article is at the bottom. I have also posted this and another article by Marlin K. Jensen, the Church historian and recorder on the HOME PAGE of LdsNet... please go over there, and DIGG these articles so that we can help educate the public about Solemn Assemblies as well.... Digg Digg Digg:-) The dedication of the Kirtland Temple was a solemn assembly, just as has been each subsequent temple dedication. In that temple’s dedicatory prayer, the Prophet spoke of one of the purposes of a temple—“that the Son of Man might have a place to manifest himself to his people.” (D&C 109:5.) On such holy occasions, the sacred Hosanna Shout is given, as it was at the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. (See Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 2d ed., Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1979, p. 368.) A solemn assembly is also called when the membership of the Church sustains a new prophet of the Lord. By sustaining the President, members of the Church signify their willingness to heed his counsel, as the Lord admonished the Saints in Joseph Smith’s time: “Thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me; “For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith.” (D&C 21:4–5.) As President Spencer W. Kimball explained in the April 1974 general conference, “Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were first sustained by a congregation, including a fully organized priesthood. Brigham Young was sustained on March 27, 1846, and was ‘unanimously elected president over the whole Camp of Israel’ by the council. (B. H. Roberts, A Comprehensive History of the Church, 7 vols., Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1978, 3:52.) Later he was sustained, and the Hosanna Shout was given. “Each of the presidents of the Church has been sustained by the priesthood of the Church in solemn assembly.” (Ensign, May 1974, p. 45.) This has been the order of the Church ever since its organization. When President Gordon B. Hinckley spoke in the solemn assembly of the April 1986 general conference, he called the meeting “a tremendously significant and sacred occasion for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the world.” The format for sustaining officers at that conference was abbreviated from that of past solemn assemblies because, explained President Hinckley, “in these present circumstances, it is considered unfeasible to seat by quorums those assembled in the Tabernacle and the many other halls. We shall, however, vote by quorums and groups.” (Ensign, May 1986, p. 73.) Solemn assemblies may be called for other reasons. On 2 July 1889, a special solemn assembly was held in the Salt Lake Temple in which President Lorenzo Snow presented the law of tithing as the word and will of God for members of the Church to accept. (See Francis M. Gibbons, Lorenzo Snow: Spiritual Giant, Prophet of God, Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1982, pp. 222–23.) Other solemn assemblies have been called by the First Presidency to instruct priesthood leaders and returned missionaries. Some solemn assemblies are held in temples, some in the Tabernacle, and others in stake centers. Whatever the purpose or location of the assembly, the sacredness of the event is paramount. At such times, we may want to keep in mind the words of the Lord to the Prophet Joseph Smith: “Hearken ye to these words. Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Treasure these things up in your hearts, and let the solemnities of eternity rest upon your minds.” (D&C 43:34.) tDMg LdsNana Perhaps with a little more understanding, we can have some great discussion on how we felt and feel about the privilege it is, both men, women, youth and children... all members of the LDS Church - what this should mean to us? Herein, is the unity of the Saints:-) LDS.org - Ensign Article - I Have a Question
  8. Nice work Ray... a great discussion has been had here:-) I am so glad that "mine" has been your experience with this type of investigation. Once again, my only concern in bringing my point into the discussion, was to ensure a balance here on LdsNet for all who are givers and receivers of what is offered here... If we are hopeful to engage with both the scholar and the lay-members, we must make sure all feel at home sharing the Gospel with the best of their abilities and intentions. The bar is raised right now for missionary work, and we want to maintain a balance on the horizon... that we all may see together what is in the distance... tDMg LdsNana
  9. Ray - Thank you very much for your intelligent reply. I hope you do not get the idea, that I feel that Mormon scholars and their works do not have their place in not only missionary work, but also in building faith... because I do. I speak out, on this concern, because I have spent over a year online doing "missionary" work, so to speak. I have spent much time over at On Faith, MADB, and various other LDS related blogs. I have used other user names in doing so... I have rarely, if ever... to my knowlegde, seen hearts change to a point of conversion, when utilizing facts, evidences and proofs. I have had wonderful conversations, with many who are oppositional to the LDS faith in using these resources unto reasoning and finding some understanding. But over the course of an entire year+... it has been my personal experience that most often, when we attempt to share the Gospel using these resources too strongly... we end up becoming entwined. I personally, love the study of The gospel of Jesus Christ from many different angles. I agree, that many scholarly works of credible LDS men and women are powerful. I have an LDS personal library in the hundreds. I am most interested in these resources as applied to missionary work... I believe that there must be a balance of scholarly research, personal study and understanding - coupled and led by the Spirit when we "teach" online. I have a firm belief, that when members of the Church, speak themselves authoritatively by the power of the Spirit - that there is no greater witness that another who is listening to one of such... could be blessed enough be a recipient of... and you can quote me on that:-) I hope that "our" conversation, is considered positive and healthy here on LdsNet and will be considered by all those who go about to share the gospel. Sharing the Gospel online (IMHO) is teaching that which "we" of ourselves have come to know by and through, the Gift of the Holy Ghost. (perhaps I will write of an experience told, of a recent returned missionary who bears this powerful witness over in the "Share the Gospel" group...) May we all go about, armed with that truth which we have received, because we have sought to know it for ourselves... and can now go forth with personal power accompanied by the Spirit of the Lord. Again, thank you for taking the time to enter this discussion with me. tDMg LdsNana:) (p.s. with all the available resources LdsNet is making available for users... , and so kindly... perhaps we could have some basic commentary for the "scriptures" made just as easily available... I am not sure which they would choose to break down the scriptures a bit more for general consumption, but perhaps their own LdsBlogs website, which phenomenal group of LDS authors teaching on all things LDS - could somehow be zeroed in on.... )
  10. Heather, Please do not mis-understand my voice here on this comment. But I am concerned that a "good" answer requires a "scholarly" person's back-up in order to be credible. Does this mean unless a poster here on Lds.Net accompanies their comments with a "credible" comment from a "scholarly" work, then it is not then credible? Could we not say, that the very best response that could be given, is one that is doctrinally sound, and perhaps uses the "scriptures" themselves as the credible source and not necessarily a "scholars" interpretation of the scriptures or our doctrines? What about quotes from our general authorities and prophets? How do these fit in with a credible post when responding online? Is there any concern, with placing too much emphasis on "credible" resources to back up our posts, that we will lose focus on allowing the Spirit to teach those who may be investigating the Church? Many people today, are very turned off by this whole scholar as experts idea. Is this being considered at all here on LdsNet? And please, I am not being derogatory. Delete this post, if it is uncomfortable that I have questioned these thoughts. I am just a bit concerned at the balance? tDMg LdsNana-AskMormon P.S. How do we see Lds.Net so different, other than with a bit more censorship, than say a forum like MADB?
  11. Hi MorningStar:-) The talent on AI is quite amazing this year as far as a talent show goes. On my blog you can watch both David and Brooke's performance videos from the last few weeks shows... if you want to catch up. I wonder how many Mormons are watching American Idol and If they are voting and supporting either Brooke White or David Archuleta? I got some interesting comments on the Brooke thread questioning how and that it is not possible to have never seen an R-rated movie. I would love for some of the Mormon youth here to come over and comment. That would be really cool. tDMg LdsNana-AskMormon
