Bite your tongue!  I'm as RIGHThanded as my politics.
Every "how to fountain pen" video I watched had the enthusiast proudly sporting ink stains on both hands, and Zil went into great detail about how it just sort of goes along with the whole deal.  So I held my phone with my non-ink-stained right hand, and took a picture of my non-ink-stained left hand.   Should further use produce a different result, apparently there ain't no shame, and no reason to claim otherwise.

Ok.  So Zil and I traded addicting passions.  I finally had time to sit down with the stuff she sent me.   I watched some videos and stuck the thing in the other thing and "milked" the thing and here's how it went.

First, I was all like this:

Then, I was all like this:

And after it was all done, I was all like this with no pen juice on me:

    How'd I do, Zil?

Hi docjohn, I'll give two answers.  First, here are some LDS church leaders directly addressing your last sentence:

Second, if you believe the Bible, but are skeptical about LDS claims that we have prophets again, it might do you some good to take a second look at the Old Testament, and maybe come to a deeper understanding about what OT prophets were and weren't, what they did and didn't do.  Here's a big dang list to get you started:
    Could a prophet...
    - Kill? Jg 14:19 (Samson); Ex 2:11-16 (Moses).
    - Lie? Gen 12:10-29 (Abraham); Jer 38:24-28 (Jeremiah); 1 Ki 2:8-9 (David); 2 Ki 8:10 (Elisha); and Mt 26:69-75 (Peter).
    - Get drunk? Genesis 9:21 (Noah).
    - Boast? 2 Cor 11:16 (Paul).
    - For a small fee, use his supernatural powers to tell where to find lost animals? 1 Sam 9:6-8, 20.
    - Prophesy of an event which fails to occur? Jon 3:1-10; Jer 18:5-10.
    - Gamble? Jg 14:12-20.
    - Be angry at God? Jon 4:1, 9.
    - Believe something unscientific? Lev 11:6; Deu 14:7 (the hare does not chew the cud).
    - Curse children? 2 Ki 2:23-25 (Elisha).
    - Want vengeance? Ps 137:9; Jer 18:19-23.
    - Contradict a former prophet? Mt 19:3-8 compare Deu 24:1-4 (divorce); 2 Sa 24:1 compare 1 Ch 21:1 (who caused David to sin?); Ex 34:7 compare Ez 18:20 (are children punished for the sins of their fathers); Ex 23:7 compare Ro 4:5 (does God justify the ungodly?).
    - Fail to understand a revelation? Ac 10:3, 17; 1 Cor 13:9-12.
    - Advocate divorce? Ezra 9, 10:3, 11, 19, 44.
    - Institute strange sounding rituals? Ex 29.
    - Give counsel not approved by the Lord? 2 Sa 7:1-5 (Nathan).
    - Worship false gods? 1 Ki 11:9-10.
    - Accept a position as the chief of magicians, astrologers, and soothsayers? Dan 5:11.
    - Break God's moral law? Jg 16:1 (Samson visits a prostitute); 2 Sa 11 (David and Bathsheba).
    - Give two contradictory prophecies? 1 Ki 22:14-18?
    - Lie to another prophet in the name of the Lord? 1 Ki 13:11-32.
    - Accuse God of deception and betrayal? Jer 20:7.
    - Go out in public naked? Is 20:1-6 (Isaiah); 2 Sa 6:20-22 (David); Mic 1:8 (Micah).
    - Be wrong about what God wants?  1 Chronicles 17, verses 2-5:
    - Teach doctrines which contradict earlier scriptures or were totally unknown to earlier prophets?   Peter's revelation concerning the consumption of unclean animals (Acts 10:9-20) contradicts earlier revelations given to Moses (Leviticus 10:10-11; 11:4-47; 20:22-26; Deuteronomy 14:1-20). Paul received a revelation that the Gentiles would be heirs with Israel through adoption in Christ. He taught that this information had been hidden from earlier generations (Romans 11:25; 16:25-26; Ephesians 1:5, 9-10; 2:11-13, 19; 3:3-6, 9; Colossians 1:26-27).
Basically, if you believe the Bible, and accept those flawed, human, error-prone, agenda-driven OT prophets as prophets of God, then maybe that'll ease your mind thinking about how our modern prophets might have some flaws and occasionally be wrong.   My worry is that it'll just make you angry at the bible, like you're angry at the church - I honestly hope that doesn't happen.
    God bless!

We were babysitting my 3 yr old niece.  She was excited to come to church.  So excited, in the middle of the sacrament she came running up the aisles screaming "Uncle [NT]!  I went pee-pee on the potty!" at the top of her lungs.

@NeuroTypical I'm guessing that most Evangelicals believe that same-sex attraction, along with many other variances in nature are likely results of the Fall. Nature became corrupt, age spans reduced, diseases and disasters increased ... how horrible would it be to suggest that such things as alcoholism (the genetic predisposition, that is) and same-sex attraction arose out of the great interruption in nature's balance?

My cousin worked at a hotel call center years ago.  He says his team would have accent challenges to break up the boredom -they'd talk to the next ten callers in a Texas accent, or refined New England, or hillbilly stereotype.
I watched him do "Texas cattle rancher" when he called as a customer to get some issue resolved.  It was weird - there he was standing in front of me, but when I heard him talk I saw him holding his 10 gallon hat, having just come in from his morning mosey.

The more I hear about Bill Waterson, the more I like him.  He seems to be a sensitive, caring soul, willing to put himself out there to help folks.  I used to be ticked at him because he didn't defend his IP, which led to a generation of Ford trucks showing Calvin urinating on Chevys, but that was before I had learned some pretty cool stories about him from firsthand sources.

You keep using that word (forcing).  I do not think it means what you think it means.
But to answer your question, I'd direct you to look a bit deeper.  Check your hidden assumptions here.  We may have a foundational, pivotal difference of opinion.  Nobody owes another person anything.  It is not right to make someone support someone else, when that person can support themselves.
Don't want to?  Don't WANT to?  You mean, they can earn what they need, they just don't wanna, so someone else should just give them money?
Gah.  I'm not easily offended, but the entire notion behind this question offends the heck out of me.
(I'm not saying anything about you Shath, I don't know you well enough to have an opinion one way or the other.  I'm just taking strong issue with the notion you're floating.)

Sometimes you have to recite the mantra "the church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints."  Sometimes you have to lock yourself in the bathroom to keep from slapping some sin out of someone.

There may be good or bad reasons to be Mormon, but the only reason that really matters, is you believe God wants you to be one.
So you tell your friends you think you may have an inkling about God's will in the matter, and you are looking further to find out what He wants for you.

    I'm something of a minimalist.
    No?
    Just trying to be modest.
    No?
I am the one!  The rest of you are two (or more)?
    Ah, well, I tried.
