  2. I know very little Hebrew - I do know a couple of Jewish Rabbis that help me. I do not trust a lot of Christians that claim to know and study Hebrew. I perfer someone that lives a language. The Traveler Huh? what is your problem? I don't care whether you "trust" me or not! I'm studieing Hebrew because I love the language and for my own personal reasons. It has nothing to do with any "agenda". Yeeesh...lighten up, dude! Interesting how you interpret my opinion. May I state it again in a slightly different manner? It has always been my advice to anyone trying to learn anything that they seek out one or more experts (the best they can find) to assist them. If you want to learn about math seek out experts in math. If you want to learn about money seek out experts in investments. I am sorry that I thought you were serious in your desire to learn Hebrew – I take back my advise and ask your forgiveness. The Traveler
  3. I will admit that in part this was a trick question. In essence I was testing the waters. There are many that indicate that they have a true understanding and relationship with Jesus but as near as I can determine no one that has posted has had a recognizable experience with the Messiah G-d the Son, Jesus the Christ. I do no say this to disturb or disappoint anyone. Just to make something clear. It is also interesting to note that even those most close to Jesus did not recognize him – example Mary at the tomb. But there is a finer point. Because some have had a spiritual experience or life changing experience – they think they know Jesus. But most of us that are honest with ourselves realize that there is something missing – we just do not want to admit it. You may surge this off as just my opinion as you like. That is your right – but the truth is that no one on this forum – so far knows how to recognize Jesus. They would not know him in a crowd nor would they know if their bishop, stake president, their minister or pope introduced to Jesus. As I said before even those that knew Jesus intimately did not recognize him – that is until something. That something is the most important point. It is the point that is missing from the post I have read. Perhaps someone caught it and I missed it. But the most important point is - - Jesus is not recognized unless he or the Father reveal him as the Christ. At this point I would suspect someone to jump up and say “what about the Holy Ghost?” To which I would answer – interesting but I think you have missed something – that I will leave for another discussion. I wish you all the best. I hope you find the Jesus you are looking for and seek. If you think you have completed your quest – I wish you well. I am still on my journey thank you – and thank you that are willing to journey beside me and express your most precious thoughts. The Traveler
  4. I have heard many say that they have a personal relationship with Jesus - but I wonder if they could really pick him out in a crowd. When Jesus was on earth most scripture experts (Scribes and Pharisees) did not recognize him. I find it interesting that many do not know his real name or how to pronounce it - yet they say that they do things in his name. So I ask - If you bumped into Jesus this week end - how do you think you would recognize him? What if he did not have his beard? The Traveler
  5. Happyness comes from acomplishing something worth while. Many set thing against themselves so there is no way they can be happy. For example: many want to be strong and healthy - but they want to eat like pigs and never exercise. Therefore they can never be happy. They are either overweight or they force themselves to do things they do not like and starve themselves. The secret of happiness is to learn to dicipline ourselves and enjoy doing it. The Traveler
  6. It is interesting to me what people believe. I like what PC had to say. There is no reason to change a law that is not being inforced any more than to keep a law that is not being inforced. I see the main problem in elected officials and citizens that will lie and break the law themself before they will make any effort to inforce and uphold the law. LDS believe the great power of Satan on earth is to use humans as a source of personal wealth and power. It is the sure sign of evil. Laws are being broken in an organized manner (secret combination) in order to exploit human life and energy. And most of us will relect as our representative such an exploiter. Who then is more corrupt - the elector or the elected? The Traveler
  7. From Bible.org from http://bible.christiansunite.com/est.cgi?a...amp;terms=ANGEL I am well aware of all the paid professional Christians that speculate about all kinds of things to earn money and earthly rewards. There is no scripture that I know of that says Cherubum are angels. Nor have I ever found a reference to refer to anything meaningful from anyone that says Cherubum are angels. They may reference each other - but nothing of G-d that says Cherubum are angels. No one of authority like a prophet directed to speak for G-d as Isaiah or any heavenly party ever said a Cherub is an angel. We know that Satan was a Cherub - you showed us that scripture. I know of no other scripture that says Satan ever was an angel. I do know of a scripture that says Satan is a g-d. In particular the "g-d of this world". But though the Bible says exactly that I have met few Christians outside of the LDS that believe the Bible. They say they believe the Bible - until it says something they do not like then they make up all kinds of excuses - my favorit is "but you do not understand the context". Which means to me - "if it is not in the context of meaning what we want we do not believe it". And then they say the Mormons do not believe the Bible. The Traveler

  9. the Bible refers to Satan as a cherub that covers. The only reference in scripture to a covering cherub is in Exodus 25:20. In that same verse the KJV is translated as "their faces shall look one to another". The literal translation of the Hebrew from which that translation is taken should read "and the two brothers shall face each other". One on the right side of the mercy seat of G-d and one on the left side. Let me know when you have had enough meat and I'll be quiet about this pearl of exceptional value that few of many Christian dominations will except from ancient original scripture manuscripts. And a question for Dr T. Where in scripture does it tell us that a cherub is an angel? The Traveler
  10. I just have one basic question. What immegration law is the problem and needs to be changed or done away with?
  11. If one is able to read Hebrew they will find that in the literal Hebrew meaning of Bible scripture that we are told that Satan. is not an angel (his heavenly titile has no modern translation) and that he does indeed have a brother whoes rightful place is on the right hand of G-d. This is where the notion comes from that Satan is the "left" hand of G-d or on the left hand of G-d.The Traveler

  13. The greatest failing is with your home teachers. I would tell you to talk to your high Priest group leader. Single mothers are his responsibility. It is possible that there are reasons for their oversight - though I can't think of any and would rather not get into that. The bottom line is that being a victim and blaming others is no way to go through life. I suggest that you continue to make the best if it that you and your son can. Try to find some way to help your home teachers, your high Priest group leader, your bishop and other in your ward that have not yet caught on to the principles of sacrifice and compassion. Perhaps you and your son could become the unusual examples that the world (and so many members - including myself) need. The Traveler
  14. My impressions is not at all what most depict as Satan. I see him as very hansom, charming and witty. If you were to meet him face to face - I believe he would come across and a rather pleasant person - well dressed and with perfect manners. He would be like your best friend - until you dropped your guard. The Traveler
  15. Wow. Interesting replies. I like the replies that suggest that we should not enforce difficult laws - that has to be a classic. Some notes. For all the demand to change immigration laws I have never heard or seen any one criticize a specific law. It appears to me that the problem is not with the law but with the enforcement. Why change laws that are not enforced? Let me give some examples: How about the law that excluded criminals from entry into the country? Shall we dump that one because it is difficult? How about a background check or a grantee from supporting governments that they grantee their citizens that they allow application - (like passports)? How about health checks to insure they do not carry infectious diseases. I know that profiling is such a bad thing but how about we limit the number of immigrants that want to destroy our governments, religions and freedoms? I see that some are concerned about our jails. Let’s start by registering all illegal immigrants. BTW do you know that half of the identify theft in the USA is done by illegal immigrants? We certainly do not want to try to put a dent in that. For those that do not think by putting illegal immigrants in jail is possible there is a sheriff in Arizona that disagrees. He has created barb wire tent cities to house illegal’s and he can feed them for around $1.00 a day – mostly bologna with bread and water. And wonder of wonder illegals have left his county in droves – he has not had to deport anyone. Most illegals come to the US because they are better off here than in their country. That is what must be changed. What ever the incentive is – is what we should expect. The dumbest thing a society can do is not enforce its laws to protect its citizens. I wonder about those that think it is stupid to know or care who is coming into our country. The Traveler .
  16. Jesus was treated as guilty while he was innocent. It was in God's plan that he die. Was it justice or injustice? G-d is not the one that brings injustice. I am sorry that you have dificulty understanding that because G-d's plan allowed for us to experience temporary injustice that he is the cause and the one guilty of it.The Traveler
  17. A thought - Let's pass a law that states that it is a felony to be in the USA illegally. This would make all illegal immigrants felons under the law and end the argument as to their legal status. It is already a felony to assist anyone in breaking the law – therefore anyone that assist an illegal immigrant in staying in the USA can also be tried under the law. For examples, doctors or hospitals offering care to illegal immigrants can be tried. Lawyers suing in behalf can be tried. Land lords renting places to stay to illegal immigrants can be tried. Employers offering jobs to illegal immigrants can be tried. I like this idea because it puts the burden on those that are creating the problem. It puts those that contribute to the problem at greatest risk and responsibility to be prosecuted under the law. Remember too that we can allow anyone needed or that we want in the country to come in with legal status. We can and should define what is legal and expect both those coming to our country and those living in our country to be subject to the law. The Traveler
  18. Of course, nobody is suggesting that we do nothing. IF capital executions are truly skewed against the poor and minorities, and IF more than a stray # of innocents are executed, than perhaps life-imprisonment ought to be imposed, at least until the process can be reviewed and improved, if such proves possible. No innocent person should ever be treated the same as a guilty person. Likewise no one that is guilty should ever be treated the same as an innocent person. That is not justice and to suggest otherwise is to hate justice - remembering that G-d is just. In our system of justice we define a person guilty as someone tried by the system and found guilty. It does not matter if a person is really guilty but acquitted in court - they are the same as innocent. Likewise it does not matter if they are really innocent - if found guilty in our courts they are guilty. It is how our laws define innocent and guilty. There may be a bias in our courts - that does not matter, because the law defines someone as innocent or guilty based on the outcome of the courts. We may not like the system but we ether believe in it or we change it. I for one am not yet willing to change the determination of innocent or guilt based on something else other that a trail by jury. With all the flaws of courts - I believe they are more just than other methods tried. Are there mistakes - yes - perhaps but if we ask the question of what to do with a someone guilty of murder??? - I believe that the death penalty must not ever be excluded as an option. Because it is the one option that will protect and prevent someone that murders from doing it again. I know of no other option that can make that guarantee. How many murders are there in prisions? This is the greatest failure. The first obligation of law is to protect but if punishment does not protect and the offender can still place others at risk our system has created the greatest of flaws. I would submit that prisions are a dangerious place and not a place of protection - lets not make it even worse. The Traveler
  19. Some years ago I had a police detective friend – I asked him because of his experience how we ought to handle criminals. The responded that he thought a 3 step process is what we should do. Step 1. First offense – we should first use a parole option. This is where the criminal does community service and we attempt to rehabilitate the criminal by education and service training. Step 2. Second offense – we should remove them from society place them under highly structured environment, employ strong psychological training and brainwashing methods to attempt rehabilitation. Step 3. Third offense – execute the criminal. I was most astonished and asked if all offenders should be handled in the same manner. For example if the criminal was only steeling nothing above the value of a nickel. His answer surprised me. He said that if you cannot convince someone that their live is worth more that 5 cents of junk you will never be able to stop them in their criminal activity and if they do not value their own life over 5 cents they will never value someone else’s life any more than their own. It is not your choice to execute; it is their choice to be executed, He went on to explain that most people with a rational mind would catch on in step one but he pointed out that there are some that have no honest values and feel no moral plain ever. 20. Not doing a thing for justice in fear of punishing someone innocent is a poor reason in my mind because any attempt at stopping the criminal could unjustly hurt someone innocent. No one - including G-d will get what they deserve out of life. I would rather error in attempting justice than to error in and doing nothing. Standing to defend society against the fear death is high courage and honor in my mind. The Traveler
  21. Thanks mamacat for piping in here. It is not lost to me that all of the posters in this thread are male. The whole concept of Everlasting Covenant was never a concern for me until I started looking at it though my wife's eyes. I wonder if it were reversed (theoretically), that is if we had to share our wives with many men, but I got to be the "first husband", how our responses would be. I would be interested if you could expound on your above thought. It's OK if you don't, but I would like to hear from your perspective. hi, thanks wiley...lol, yes it seems males enjoy discussing polygamy more doesn't it? perhaps not so much, if as you mentioned, the issue were polyandry. in essence, i am trying very hard to understand why polygamy would be commanded by God if, as i believe without a doubt, that we are destined to be with a single twinsoul. beyond that, i don't have that much to contribute. it was interesting to see the perspective that God never actually 'commanded' it in the bible. Marriage is about service, sacrifice and covenant before G-d. Not about pleasing an individual's fantasies, attractions or desires. When viewing marriage as "what is in it for me" - nothing will make sense and greater satisfaction will always be found elsewhere. BTW - To accept what G-d offers is to live his commandments. If G-d offers or gives something it is the same as a commandment. But because G-d commandmended someone to sacrifice their first borne son does not mean that all must live by that same commandment. 22. Exactly. I have a former SIL who follows that belief as well. Scary and sad. It appears that you and I have some things in common. Some times the things a person does thunders so laud that you can't hear a word they are saying. The Traveler

  25. The general idea is that while one serves on a mission they serve and do G-d's will rather than their own. I had hoped to use my music talents while on my mission but I was told it was better to serve according to my call. I left my clasical gutar at home - played some on my mission but I do not regret at all my missionary service. - There is a time for all seasons. The Traveler
