I enjoyed everyone's comments about this subject. My point goes along with abqfriend in that the mission field is everywhere and we need to be careful not to soley rely on our experiences we had in the mission. I hope we all keep our candles burning and do the things that allowed us to feel so close to God while on the mission.

On my other blog: Grace for Grace, I wrote about the phrase: "When I was on my mission." It seems like we hear it so often, but I wonder why we have to fall back to our missions? Why don't we share current experiences more often?

Hi Shadowhunter, I've grappled with this question as well in the past. I have members of my family who are not in the LDS church and others who are. Those who are not in the LDS church feel that it is blasphemy to say there is more than one God, but there are numerous occasions in the scriptures that show there is more than one God. For example, in Genesis it says "let us make man in our image." A talk by an LDS General Authority, Jeffery R Holland gave a very good talk that has helped me with learning about the nature of God and why it is important. This is funny. I wrote about this a few months back over on my blog at Grace for Grace. I think it's possible to read the Book of Mormon and not be fully converted to Mormonism. If one simply reads the Book of Mormon it reads Protestant. Where Mormonism takes a sharp turn away from the mainstream is in latter revelations given through Joseph Smith, such as the King Follett discourse. Regarding the issue of the historicity of the Book of Mormon, I wrote about that as well. I have friends from other faiths that have brought this up to me many times and in my scripture study I read about Jesus' death replacing the need for the temple ordinances...I mainly want to hear what other LDS people think about the scriptures I wrote about.

In college, I skimmed through the book by Victor Frankl entitled “Man’s Search for Meaning.” Recently I decided to read it again and spend a little more time digesting the concepts....Frankl describes what happened when he arrived. First, they took all of his belongings, which only consisted of a suitcase, coat, etc. and disposed of them. Next, they stripped the prisoners down to nothing and then shaved them completely naked. Very humiliating. As I was reading this I had a thought about who we as human beings really are. How would I view myself if I had a similar situation? ... Polygamy is a huge issue and it is a great concern still for members of the LDS church. Some have concerns with polygamy and say the LDS church still “practices” polygamy in the sense that it is still a revelation in the Doctrine and Covenants section 132. In addition, people are still married in temples for eternity to spouses after one spouse passes away, so polygamy is technically still a part of LDS doctrine. In addition, the Bible supports polygamy so Christians technically "should" believe in it too.
