  1. What is this scripture questioning? "Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?" I know it is talking about Heavenly Father versus our earthly parents...yet, what exactly is it asking? Can it kinda be compared to Matthew 10:37? "He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me" I meant to ask the elders in my ward this yesterday and I forgot...so what do you guys think??
  2. Once you get to the part when Joseph is telling Nathan about the First Vision...you'll be sucked in. I was a non member when I read the first two, which is one of the reasons that I started taking the missionary lessons...and at that part, I felt as if he was explaining it to me, not to another character in the story... I think that is one thing about how Lund writes Joseph, there is sometimes that it feels like he is talking to the reader....its fantastic...
  3. I didn't read all of the posts...so it might be answered like this already...but Ill just give the answer anyway... The WoW specifically says that we are not to drink coffee and teas....and the teas they mean are the unnatural/nonherbal teas. Green tea is NOT natural...I know this for a fact because I was very into Wicca for a number of years before getting baptized. I know my teas. Whatever you are drinking the green tea for, I can guarantee you that there is something else you can drink, a herbal tea, that would be better for you. Green tea is bad for your digestive system...which is why it is part of the WoW. Do some research of your own into what herbs would be good for your condition...I drink and eat certain herbal remedies because I have hyperthyroidism and certain herbs help keep my thyroid levels undercontrol... Even go into the Witchcraft section of the bookstore and find a herbal remedies book...they are the best ones to find this information...I'm not saying look into spell books and such...there are a number of great books that only talk about herbal remedies...no magic stuff in there what so ever.
  4. I think ill try that too....its only 6 pages a day, and when i read, i usually read more than that...so ill do it...
  5. I'm actually gonna start reading the Tennis Shoes adventure series soon. I met the author at Ensign a couple weeks ago and got him to sign my copy. He was promoting the movie based on his first book, Passage to Zarahemla...anyway...he was great...and he gave me the best advice for aspiring writers...I asked him about writing his first book and that I am in the middle of writing my own. He told me that when it comes to writing your first book, perseverance is more important then talent. So that goes to all the other aspiring writers here...its really helped me.
  6. I'm a very recent convert...literally...I just got comfirmed a week ago...but I already have a plan to go on a mission, or turn in my papers a year from now. I participated in my very first type of missionary work today. I was talking to an old friend, who is very religious but a non member, that I haven't talked to in a long time. We were talking about fighting addictions and giving up things for faith. So I shared with her the things I had given up since gaining a witness of the gospel and being baptized into the LDS Church. She instantly began giving me her concerns of the truthfulness of the gospel and concerns about me believing its word. So I shared with her my testimony and the faith that I had in the Plan of Salvation. We talked for almost and hour. I evem got out my sciptures and read some stuff from the New Testament and D&C. After I hung up, I was exhilirated. I truly cannot wait until I am a full time missionary. Whether she was interested or not, it felt wonderful to share the gospel with someone.
  7. Moroni 7 Alma 32 Mosiah 18:8-10 but I have to say my favorites at the moment is D&C 90:24 (the one that is my forum signature just right below this)... And the one I will always know by heart Hebrews 11:1 : Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
  8. just had our ward conference this past sunday...is was amazing. I was also confirmed on that day. The Spirit was so STRONG. The Stake Pres did a talk in Sacrament meeting and in Priesthood/Relief Society. They were both so wonderful. My mom, dad, and step mother came to church that day as well. They are non members. They stayed for the whole sacrament meeting. My mom and dad both loved the pres talk. He talked about the four principals we need for happiness. Hope, faith, diligence and patience. My dad loved it. He told me on the phone yesterday that he would like to come to church again... And seeing as how I have been having trouble with my family because of my conversion, this was such a blessing. I cried. In my opinion...ward conference is a blessing for all of us.
  9. Have any of you guys read these books?? I LOVELOVE them so much. I was actually a non member when I started reading them. My best friend is LDS and we met 9 years ago. Her mom and I were talking about books when she mentioned these and let me borrow the first one. I read the first two in less than a week. It was actually because of these that I started taking the missionary lessons last September. I was baptized this month. Anyway..in the first one, when Joseph is telling Nathan about the first vision...it felt like I was the one asking him about it. And Joseph was answering me, not the character. It was this part of the book, and a part in volume 2 when Joseph challenges Ben to be baptized, that moved me enough to take the missionary lessons. Every member should read them...they're amazing.
  10. Hey there everyone...I'm Candace from Southern Cali I was just baptized this month and confirmed this last sunday. Although, I've been exposed to the Church for nine years because my best friend in LDS. So it only took me long enough...anyway...excited to get into the mix. Already started saving and studying so I can be ready for a mission in hopefully late '09.
