  1. This is short, short notice, but there is a game tonight at 6 to 7 PM Pacific, 9 - 10 PM Eastern. It's in the usual place with the details on the website. Furthermore, there is one other day available this week if a game doesn't happen tonight: Saturday at the same time. I don't want to run out of questions so quickly, AND I want there to be more of a variety. It will take a while to get loads of questions, but it will be fun to create them. I hope to see someone then. I changed the point values of puzzles with the hope that players will guess fewer letters and, especially vowels. The value starts at 2500, plus 4000, and minus 500 for each word but not below 3500. 2500 is for each letter in the alphabet, but 2600 doesn't seem right. Each letter guessed decreases its value by 100 and then the value of each letter. Vowels take 600 points away from the value. Additionally, the value of the puzzle is always shown after the puzzle when displayed. Players do not see their scores as the game progresses except at the end of every round. Other trivia games show the scores when players get correct answers. For right now, players will see their scores privately when they get points for correct answers. I haven't finished this feature yet.
  2. (Thanks to the admins that allow me to post these notices, but I would like help in spreading the word to get players.) I know this isn't much notice, but this is the only day available this week. Anyway, I hope to have a game of LDS Trivia and Puzzles sometime between 6 PM and 7 PM Pacific tonight. Information on how to get to the game is on its website. I hope to see someone there. I made an update to the script. I programmed the script to give hints for word scrambles and expand the time to 60 seconds. The first hint gives the first letters of each word, and the second hint gives a clue to the word or phrase but cuts the points in half. I hope this makes it easier for players.
  3. I hope to have a game session either tonight or tomorrow at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. Information on how to get to the game are on its website. If you have any questions, please ask. I hope someone else may have the same problem. I've added a bunch of questions and even some puzzles.
  4. Okay, the next game sessions of LDS Trivia and Puzzles is every day for the rest of the week until a game occurs at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. For information on how to get to the game, go to its website. I'm going to ask three completely random questions here. Rack your brains to come up with the answers, including looking them up, but do not post those answers here. Come to the game to answer. I suggest storing the answers in a text file using one line per question. When prompted, post the answers in the game. Earn points. Anyway, here are the questions: Church History: Name three of Joseph Smith's scribes when he translated the Book of Mormon. Book of Mormon: Laman and Lemuel were murmuring against Lehi. What did they feel in regards to Jerusalem? A) They felt it wouldn't be destroyed; B) they completely and totally believed Lehi that it would be destroyed; or C) they wanted to get their items that were left behind? New Testament: Which two gospels talk about Jesus cursing a fig tree? A) Matthew, B) Mark, C) Luke, and D) John.
  5. (I forgot about Stake Conference, so I'm moving the game to tomorrow, Monday, or Tuesday. One more day to look up answers to the three questions.) Okay, the next game session of LDS Trivia and Puzzles is on the 18th, 19th, or 20th at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. For information on how to get to the game, go to its website. I'm going to try this again by posting three completely random pre-game questions. Rack your brains to come up with the answers, but do not post them here. Come to the game, and players will get their chance. I suggest storing the answers in a text file using one line per question. When prompted, post the answers in the game. Earn points. Look up answers. Anyway, here are the questions: Is the following from the M) Book of Mormon or the B) Bible? "And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation; a foundation whereon if men build, they cannot fall." Book of Mormon: "All of the following were righteous men . . . EXCEPT A) Jared, B) Abinadi, C) Lehi, or D) Gadianton?" Is the Kyiv Ukraine Temple within its city limits?
  6. I hope to do a game of LDS Trivia and Puzzles tonight. Since it's short notice and close to the regular start time, I'll move it to no later than 8 pm Pacific. Having two people would be ideal, but one works. It's the same location as before: channel #lds_trivia on DALnet. More information available on the website. If a game doesn't happen tonight, I will have one on Saturday night and will post the time and initial questions. If you have any questions about how to get to the game, please let me know.
  7. The next game of LDS Trivia and Puzzles will be tonight, Friday, 2 Jul at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. It is at the same location as before. More information is on the website: http://www.ldstrivia.org/. I'm going to try something and do pre-game questions here instead of mailing list only. Here's how it works. I'll post three completely random questions from my database. Rack your brain to come up with the answers, including looking them up. Do NOT answer these in a comment. I won't count it. Now, save the answers somewhere in a text file. Go to the game's location and wait for the game to start. When prompted, paste the answers to these questions. Whoever gets them correct in one shot gets points. Unfortunately, I will not post the answers to these questions here or any message board. If we play a game, I will post the correct answers in the newsletter after the game. Finally, here are three questions: Which Latter-day Saint sang the following lyric? "The world and I, we are still waiting. Still hesitating, any dream will do." New Testament: Which two gospels talk about the fourth day of Passover, which occurs after Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem? Church History: Wilford Woodruff talks about Joseph Smith holding a meeting on a Sunday in a log schoolhouse in Kirtland. Excluding Joseph, how many people does he list by name that are in attendance? The last question is normally an educated guess question, but it will change to a regular question, because people can look it up and take more time.
  8. This is sudden with not much notice, but I want to have a game of LDS Trivia and Puzzles either tonight or tomorrow night at the usual time of 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. The game takes place at the same location: DALnet on IRC in #lds_trivia channel. More information is on the website. I successfully moved references to the software. Unfortunately, the way it makes the HTML doesn't have the desired effect. Oh, well. Anyway, I also updated the sources in the answers themselves. I want to make it as easy as possible for people to find and even verify answers. It's also there if players want to study more about various topics.
  9. It's the fourth of July week so that some people may travel for this holiday. I plan on two days next week with the possibility of doing other days if requested. The two days is Sunday the 30th and Monday the first at the same time at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. I may have the game earlier if two people show up. The location has not changed: It's still on DALnet through IRC in channel #lds_trivia. I hope to see some people then. More information is on the game's website. Note: There will only be one game these two days, so if a game happens on Sunday, there won't be one on Monday or for the rest of the week. I'll post if a game happens, or I'll remove this post.
  10. Hi yall. I am here again. Might as well call me a regular I guess since this site is pretty awesome. So for context, me and my girlfriend of 6 months broke up at the beginning of this fall as she was contemplating serving a mission and in the end we to part ways and committed to see each other on the other side (post mission). For a month and a few weeks we didnt have any communication like we used to and when we saw each other, we limited it to small talk "hey how are classes etc". Then out of the blue she texted me to talk so we did. During this talk she said that she didnt feel that it was a calling from the Lord to serve a mission and a lot of pressure was placed onto her from her mother. She concluded that she wants to be back in a relationship with me. I accepted as I do love her and so for three weeks now we have been dating and it has been a greatly God centered relationship like it was before, only the spirit appears to be so much more involved (we arent letting things get out of hand). During the time of our split she has made many close guy friends, one of which is on her sports team who she described to me when we were broken up as her best friend. At the time we got back together, she mentioned if it was okay that she kept her male friends (all single who flirt with her) around, and I obliged because I believed her when she said that she is choosing me and not them. She never kissed any of them over this period but it was apparent that she developed an emotional attachment between perhaps three different guys, the strongest being the guy that is on her sports team. She disclosed to me on the night we got back together that the guy on her team is an attractive guy (which he is as I met him before I got back together with my girlfriend) and obviously I did not feel as though I had any place to deny her, her friendships, even if I was skeptical that their behavior towards her (flirtatious) was not likely to change. So last week me and my girlfriend were hanging out and we were talking about the relationships or friendships we formed with other people while we were split. I repeated what I said to her on the night we got back together that I went on a date with one girl and although I scheduled a second date with her, I texted this girl letting her know that it wasnt fair to her that I was still in love with my ex (now girlfriend). My girlfriend asked if I kept any female friends around to which I explained I didnt because I have no reason to while I am in a relationship with her, which led her to feel guilty that she was keeping her male friends close while she was in a relationship with me, but after long discussion about one of her close male friends who she met while hanging out with her bestfriend who is on her team, I said that I trust her to respect our relationship and even though this particular guy has been on dates with her, I had faith that she would not do anything to jeopardize our relationship. Flashforward to yesterday, my girlfriend thought she had practice for an instrument and her sports bestfriend is also in that class so she understandably asked him for a ride and its clearly been routine since they have met. I did offer to give her a ride my self, but it was on a moped and its cold here in Provo so I understood why she was more eager to get a ride in her sports bestfriends' car. She wasnt sure if he was going to come through as he was contemplating whether to go to the volleyball game or not but with 7 mins before her class started he did, and I took the cue to say a quick goodbye to my girlfriend and we both left with the expectation (we established this earlier on in the day) that we would hang out after her two hour instrument practice. So after an hour and thirty so minutes I get a text that "I made it home. Are you still okay to hang out tonight" to which I replied "of course". I got to her place and we met up and I noticed that she was wearing nice jeans that I didnt see previously and I even commented that they were nice. So we sit down together on a couch and she proceeds to tell me what just happened over the past time I thought she was at guitar practice. SHe and her sports bestfriend found out that guitar practice isnt today and was actually on Wednesday like it usually is, which she has been attending since the beginning of the semester. So they take the liberty to head back to her place and all this time they were actually at my girlfriends place because her sports bestfriend hadnt eaten at all and wanted to eat at her place. She didnt protest. So I wanted her to clarify that in the hour and thirty odd minutes that I thought she was at guitar practice (there was no update text), she was actually at her place the whole time with her sports bestfriend, and she confirmed. I couldnt quite believe what I was hearing so I proceeded to leave then I came back and we had a long discussion about how I felt really betrayed that she didnt bother to let me know her instrument practice was actually on Wednesday, and she was at home the whole time with her bestfriend who she hasnt denied she finds attractive. She was extremely apologetic and confessed that she does have feelings for her bestfriend who is on her team but she values our relationship so will act to cut off her ties with these other guys from here on out. After what happened the other day, I agreed to this and we have made up but she believes that she will have to regain my trust in this relationship. Im interested in a discussion on this and will clarify things I didnt put in this post. p.s I love her dearly
  11. I know it's not much notice, but I'm hoping to have a game of LDS Trivia and Puzzles tonight, Sunday the 23rd, at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. I am done with school so that I can do other games on a different day of the week. Let me know what day. Information on how to get to the game is on its website.
  12. Okay, it's been a while. I am almost done with school, and I just moved to a new location, so I didn't have access to the computer with the capability of playing the game. (It's only on one computer.) There's probably not enough notice for tonight, but I'm hoping to have a game either tonight, tomorrow, or Sunday. I'm setting a time at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern, but I am open to change it. Let me know what time you'd like. The location has not changed, so if you want more information on how to get there, visit the game's site. As for game changes and whatnot, I haven't had time to work on the game. I wrote a few questions, but that's about it. We'll see. I'm going to make posts in my new ward and my old ward in an attempt to get some players. Let me know if you have questions.
  13. Okay, this isn't much notice, but I hope to have a game of LDS Trivia and Puzzles tonight at the usual time of 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. This is in about five and a half hours. More information on how to get to the game is on the game's website. I'm not sending any pre-game questions until someone signs up to the mailing list. If you want to get three pre-game questions sent before each game, please sign up. It's also on the website. Finally, please let me know if you are unable to sign up to the mailing list. I can't fix things if I don't know about them.
  14. Okay, an opening has come up in my schedule for Sunday, 24 Mar, at the usual time of 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. The game may start earlier if two people show, and I'm ready. I'm done with school until a week from Monday. (Boy, that's not a lot of time.) I don't know when I'll be able to have games, but I'll announce here when I'm available. IRC is an older form of chatting, but it's still great due to features the IRC client I use has. Without its scripting capabilities, I would have to use other methods. The games would last a lot longer, and it may not be as fun. I'm still writing questions, but puzzles can be the hardest to write. Writing a combination of small and large puzzles is difficult. As for other days in the week, I'll announce the day before when one or more spots open. Thank you, and I hope to see you there.
  15. It's been a while for a game due to personal reasons. There are two days to possibly have one game: Saturday (now today) and Sunday (tomorrow). The official time is 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern; however, the game can start earlier if two or more people show ready to play, and I'm there, too. For more information, see the website.
  16. I'm Tegan; I'm a member of the Church of England but have grown up around LDS members; I've always been interested in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and their beliefs which is why I'm doing my dissertation on Christians and marketing with a focus on Latter Day Saints. I've grown up not feeling represented for my beliefs in society as a whole and in marketing which is why I wanted to do this for my research. After doing some interviews with LDS members, I felt like getting more of an insight into Latter Day Saints' beliefs is insanely important for the future of marketing. I would be beyond grateful for anyone to do my survey (I've posted it below) or just to reply to this post with what is the most important aspect of their faith and why. Christians and MarketingThank you in advance to anyone that does my survey or replies to this post and I can't wait to learn more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Third Hour
  17. This week's trivia game session is only tonight. I'm not available the other nights this week. Once again, the game starts roughly at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. It may start earlier if two people show up. For more information, see the website.
  18. Okay, I thought I posted about the game sessions this week, but I didn't. My apologies. Normally, it's Friday and Saturday in addition to Sunday, but today is a snow day. Add tonight to the mix with a start time of 6 to 7 PM Pacific, 9 to 10 PM Eastern. For more information about the game, see the game's website.
  19. Okay, it's time for the game sessions for the week of 3 Feb to 9 Feb: Sunday, Friday, and Saturday at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. It's the day of the Super Bowl, so Sunday's session can start late, but the on-time bonus is not given. Further, I'm going to send an email to the subscribers of the list with three questions. Whoever subscribes to the list should get that same email. I hope to post three questions for each session next week, too. Anyway, I hope to see some people there. For more information, visit the website.
  20. Okay, it's a new week. For the week of 20 Jan to 26 Jan, there are four possible game days of LDS Trivia and Puzzles: tonight, Monday, Friday, and Saturday. I'll keep the time at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. Monday is a day that a game can't start late. I'll post three pre-game questions to the mailing list in a moment. I hope to see some of you there. More information on the website.
  21. Okay, next week has three days for games: Sunday, Friday, and Saturday at the same time of 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. The first one will be today--tonight. I'll try once again and post three questions to the mailing list. If a game doesn't happen, I'll post again later in the week. See the website for details on how to get to the game.
  22. The first week of school is one day from finishing, but I hope to have one game in the next three days. For consistency, the time will still be 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern, but it can start up to two hours after six. Details on getting to the game are on the website. I made a change to the script, but I haven't updated the website, yet. The !pick and !guess commands are now optional. In fact, using the wrong command, except !puz, will still be accepted for what is asked. The !puz command is still recommended, especially for the player in control.
  23. I'll have a game tonight at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern until about 8 PM Pacific. There's an on-time bonus for showing up at 6 PM. Hope to see you there. Pre-questions will be sent if people sign up for the mailing list. More details on the website.
  24. Okay, no one has responded to what time to do a game, so I'll try for a game of LDS Trivia and Puzzles either tonight or tomorrow night at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern until about 8 PM Pacific. There's an on-time bonus for showing up at 6 PM. Hope to see you there. More details on the game's website.
  25. (I forgot to put a message here about the next game.) This is the last week off before going back to school, and I have time this week to do a game, but I don't know which day. If anyone wants to have a game, please let me know of a day and time for one. Remember that I'm on Pacific Standard Time. Any times given without a time zone indication is on that time zone. If the time zone where you're at isn't known, indicate the country and the nearest major city, and I'll find out. More details on the game's website.
