  1. Hello, fellow LDS Trivia and Puzzles player(s): I haven't tried anything since the end of May for a June game, but I want to try once a month to schedule a game. What will be difficult is finding a time when players are available. Instead of setting a specific time or range of times, I'm trying appointments. After scheduling a time, I will send a notification as soon as possible. I will send three random questions the day before the game's scheduled time. The goal is to complete a game in less than four hours; however, this is not set in stone. A partial game is better than no game. Here are my available times to set up and play a game: Friday evening, starting between 7 PM and 8 PM All day Saturday Sunday between 1:30 PM and 6 PM All times are Mountain Daylight Time (MDT). Be sure to specify the time zone; otherwise, I will assume it's MDT. For those outside the United States and Canada, compare your time zone with Boise, Idaho, in the United States. To schedule a time, reply to this post. Please help spread the word about the game and tell people you know. Also, tell them that they do not have to be members to play. The game's website is here. (Edit: Added website.)
  2. Hello, Fellow LDS Trivia and Puzzles Players: June is coming up, and I haven't tried to get a game going since moving to Idaho. Yes, I made announcements and even made changes to the game, but I haven't really tried to get a game going. The problem is that I work two jobs, so I'm not sure when a good time would be. So instead of trying to set times, I'm going to try appointments that will allow me to adjust my work times. Fortunately, my second job is very flexible. Remember that I am on Mountain Daylight Time here in the United States. For those outside the US and Canada, compare your current time to Boise, Idaho. Here are some available start times throughout the week: Tuesday through Friday night from about 6 PM to 7 PM Saturday from about 8 AM to 7 PM Sunday from about 4 PM to 7 PM I will not have games on Monday night due to Family Home Evening. The goal is to complete a game in four hours, and the games are live. The computer and I will choose questions, puzzles, and scrambles randomly, so I will not know what will appear beforehand. Reply to this post to let me know of possible dates and times to set up. Please help spread the word. (Edit: Added bullet points.)
  3. Hello, fellow trivia players: I'm going to have game sessions once a month. If there is a game, great. If not, wait until next month. Since Thanksgiving is around the corner, I will do this month's game early. The possible sessions will occur tomorrow, the 5th, sometime between 1 PM and 7 PM; Saturday, the 7th between 4 PM and 8 PM; and Sunday between 1 PM and 7 PM. All times are Pacific Standard Time, and I live near Seattle to help determine time differences outside the United States and Canada. Since I'm going back to work Friday full time, the times available in the future will be Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Sunday is not the best day due to going to church and spending time with family, but weekday evenings will not work. Players can contact me to schedule games based on Pacific Standard Time. As always, the game's website shows where the game takes place, four methods on how to get there, rules, game stats, and a page that shows the sources used for questions. See you then. Please help me get players by spreading the word.
  4. The next game session will be Sunday, 4 Nov 2018. The time is 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. Remember that arriving on time gets 5,000 points right off the bat. I hope to see people there. Please see the website for more info on getting to the game. Any questions? Please ask here or via e-mail shown on the site.
  5. Okay, here's the reminder about a game on Sunday, 21 Oct 2018. It will be at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. If no one shows up to an hour after this time, no game will be played until the next time. Unfortunately, I'm only able to hold the one game this coming week because of school and work. I don't have a lot of time to work on the game as much as I did during summer break. I hope to see some people there. If there's a problem finding the game or a suggestion for another time, please drop a line, either by commenting or from the website.
  6. Okay, conference weekend is upon us. This is a perfect time to have a game. Two are scheduled to occur on Saturday night AND Sunday night at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. If I get any responses about it being earlier, I may have it start earlier. If you are interested in playing, please see the website (http://www.ldstrivia.org) for more information and/or ask questions here. Even though two are scheduled, only one will be played, so if a game plays on Saturday, there will be no game on Sunday. If that happens, I will announce it. I hope to see some players.
  7. Okay, the next game will be on Sunday night at the usual 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. The other two days will be Tuesday and Friday at the same time. One game will be played this week, so I'll announce when a game is played. Okay, it's football season, so some of you may want to watch football more than playing trivia, but if you can, I suggest recording it. I start school on Wednesday, so after next week, the only game day will be Sunday night. If you have questions about how to get to the game, please ask, either here or through private message. I can't help people get to the game if I don't know about it. Further, remember the time zone is Pacific, which is -7 GMT with daylight savings. For the other side of the world, the game would be in the morning the following day. I suggest Googling what time it is in Washington state to see how much time you are apart from where I'm at. I hope to see you there.
  8. Okay, no game this week. I'll try announcing earlier than just 24 hours. I don't work Saturday, but there's a devotional, so there won't be a game then. Unfortunately, the next game will be Sunday at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. For those outside the United States, that would make it about 10 AM in Tokyo and about 11 AM in the middle of Australia. That country spans about four time zones. Daylight Savings can throw a monkey wrench into time zones. To get a better time, compare your time zone to GMT -7.
  9. Okay, this next week's games are either Sunday night or Monday night at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. More information on the website, including signing up for newsletters and notifications. This could be a great activity for Family Home Evening.
  10. The next game will be tonight at 6:30 PM Pacific, 9:30 PM Eastern, or it will be either Monday or Tuesday at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. I work today, so that's why it's moved a half an hour. For more information, please see the website. People should now be able to sign up for the mailing lists. If there's difficulty signing up, please let me know.
  11. Okay, time for a game Tuesday OR Wednesday night at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. More information on the website. I hope to see you there. If a game happens on Tuesday, I'll post that there won't be one on Wednesday. I hope to have the subscribe function of the site operational. People should be able to subscribe to e-mails that talk about the game AND when the next game session will be.
  12. Okay, I'm hoping to have a game Sunday night at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. Once again, more information on the website. I added some information on how to get to the game with an Apple product. Unfortunately, I don't know much, but I hope it will help someone get there.
  13. I forgot to post this last night, but another game of LDS Trivia and Puzzles is scheduled for tonight at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. More details on the website. I hope to see you there.
  14. A game didn't happen Tuesday. I hope to have one tonight at the usual time of 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. More information on the website. For those of you that use Apple electronics, I do not know how to access IRC networks with the Apple store. I suggest to look for IRC clients in the Apple store and pick one that looks good, download it, and try it. The website has more information on accessing it using other methods, and I hope it can help with configuration.
  15. I'm hoping to have a game tonight and/or Thursday at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. For those that are interested in playing, please help spread the word. IRC used to be full of people chatting, but something happened to have no one want to talk there anymore. (This is a good thing, because people aren't spending a lot of time talking online, which is what I did over 20 years ago.) I someday hope that I can get a big enough community of players to stop by, chat, and learn about the gospel in a fun way. Until then, I need help. The website has more information on how to get there: I hope to see you tonight and/or Thursday night. Thank you to all moderators for allowing me to post this. The objective is to find players.
  16. There will be one session this week but in two possible time slots: Tuesday or Wednesday. Both start at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. Details about how to get to the game are on the game's website.
  17. Since I have Friday off, I'm hoping to have a game at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. Remember that if you're on time, you get a 2,500 point bonus. I'll try increasing the bonus. Further, the web site for the game is on-line.
  18. The next game of LDS Trivia and Puzzles will be at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. Remember that being on time will get a bonus of 1,000 points. At the beginning of the week, I got the game's web site up and running. The site gives a lot of information about how to get to the game, the rules of the game, and logs of game play. Please check it out. Please tell people that you think might be interested in the game.
  19. I have a day off, so I hope to have a game session tonight at 6 PM Eastern, 9 PM Pacific. Once again, it's on DALnet in channel #lds_trivia. I hope to see you all there. It's difficult to let people know about the next game if I don't post it. Further, people don't know that a game session happened on Sunday. It wasn't a full game, but a player was there for three rounds. Details about the game are on the Facebook group LDS Trivia and Puzzles and when I get the web site finished and posted.
  20. Okay, it's time to host a game of LDS Trivia and Puzzles Sunday night at the usual time of 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern. Once again, it's on DALnet in channel #lds_trivia. I hope to see many people there. I added a winning streak record. It starts at zero, and when players break it, bonus points are awarded, but MORE points are earned when broken at one time. More details will be on the web site once I get it finished.
  21. . . . I'm still working on the web site, and it's almost done. I keep reading it to make sure it looks good, and I keep thinking of stuff to add. Then I got to find a host. I'll post here when it's finished with a URL.
  22. . . . Doing this game helps me keep up with the gospel. When I script test, I actually play, and I've gotten questions wrong and even confused me on a few. I'm not sure it's a good thing if I can confuse myself with questions. . . . I want to remind everyone there are many ways to get onto an IRC network. I choose to use DALnet, because the script is written for that network, and the network created the features that other IRC networks use, especially registering nicknames. To get onto an IRC network, search for "IRC clients" on Google or your app store. If you need assistance, please ask here. I hope that other people with similar or the same problem can be helped at the same time. I've made some changes since the last game. Some were already implemented, and some were added this week. One, there is a jackpot that accumulates when questions are missed. I updated it to include missed opportunities to earn points. The jackpot is awarded randomly to players that answer questions correctly. The odds get better the longer the jackpot isn't claimed, and higher point value questions get more chances. I'm still thinking of other ways to add to the jackpot. Two, I now added a pause feature after a question is asked. Even when I was playing, I felt there just wasn't enough time to think of an answer for questions, especially when more than one correct is needed. It's even worse with really long questions. I added a formula to add a pause in three second increments based on the question's length in number of words. *Really* short questions will have no pause. Three, I added some stat tracking. Of course, the main point of the game is to answer trivia questions, and everything else, especially the puzzles, are bonus points. The script is now going to track the number of correct answers each player gets. It's also going to track the average point value of questions. This average takes into account two and three answer questions. Finally, it tracks the questions asked and the number of right answers. I decided not to track the amount of time, because I have to manually look for correct answers, and it could get messy, let alone inaccurate. Educated guess questions is a little different where the player gets right answer credit only if a right answer is given. However, it will count for winning streak purposes. I could probably go into more, but this post is long enough. Besides, I still need to get a web site up. I think this will be the ticket to getting more people to the games. Doing a 24 hour trivia game is not possible right now, and it defeats the purpose of having a human.
  23. . . . on DALnet in channel #lds_trivia. See you there.
  24. Okay, I forgot that tomorrow is Father's Day, so there won't be a game Sunday evening. However, there may be one on Monday night. I don't know if I'll be home in time for Monday night. I'll post something if there will be a game, but there may not be much warning. After Monday, my next day off is Thursday, so I hope to have a game then.
  25. . . . It will take place on DALnet in channel #lds_trivia. . . . If anyone is interested, let me know or just like this post. (Please only like if there's an intent to actually come play.)
