  1. Hello, Fellow LDS Trivia and Puzzles Players: June is coming up, and I haven't tried to get a game going since moving to Idaho. Yes, I made announcements and even made changes to the game, but I haven't really tried to get a game going. The problem is that I work two jobs, so I'm not sure when a good time would be. So instead of trying to set times, I'm going to try appointments that will allow me to adjust my work times. Fortunately, my second job is very flexible. Remember that I am on Mountain Daylight Time here in the United States. For those outside the US and Canada, compare your current time to Boise, Idaho. Here are some available start times throughout the week: Tuesday through Friday night from about 6 PM to 7 PM Saturday from about 8 AM to 7 PM Sunday from about 4 PM to 7 PM I will not have games on Monday night due to Family Home Evening. The goal is to complete a game in four hours, and the games are live. The computer and I will choose questions, puzzles, and scrambles randomly, so I will not know what will appear beforehand. Reply to this post to let me know of possible dates and times to set up. Please help spread the word. (Edit: Added bullet points.)
  2. Hello, fellow LDS Trivia and Puzzles players: It's been almost two months since the last attempt at a game. I figure the fourth of July is the perfect day to try for a game. It's a day off for me, and fireworks don't start until later. (This ignores the early shooters.) Today's game will start between 11 AM and 6 PM Pacific Daylight Time. Compare your time zone with Seattle, Washington. The start time depends on when players enter the channel. Once again, the game takes place on channel #lds_trivia on DALnet. See the website for information on how to connect. Please ask in the comments if you have any questions about how to get to the game. I hope to see you all there. Due to lack of advance notice, there are no pre-game questions.
  3. I am a convert of 5 years. I have tried for 4 years to get a temple recommend. The bishop at the time when I joined the church was going to give me my recommend at the one year mark. Then just as we setup the meeting he was released. The new bishop has said another 6 months for that last 4 years, each time giving a different reason or no reason at all. I have done everything the bishop has asked, and still he refuses to give me one. He told me that it would be on him at judgement, if he let me go not feeling I am ready to understand the sacredness of the temple. This I find odd because if I go to the temple not ready, thats on me. I feel that is between me and Heavenly Father. I can honestly ansewer yes to everyone of the temple recommend questions. I serve diligantly in my calling, attend church regularly, and pay my tithing, teach the gosple in my home, ect. I have felt so torn about this. I have prayed, fasted, and studied the scriptures looking for answers. I want to be sealed to my wife and children. This is the goal I have set and seam to not be able to achive. I feel like I'm hitting my head on a brick wall. My wife said to drive to the temple to go to the grounds just to feel the spirit of the temple. I was prompted to pray many times to pray while at the temple. The feeling was overwhelming that, that was the place I needed to be. So I am trying to do what he said, but feel in that time I will be refused again. Any suggestions? Thank You.
  4. Do you guys truly believe this..? In the Journal of Discourses words from Brigham Young himself and officially published and included in the BYU library: It is a doctrine of the Mormon faith that their are people living on both the moon and the son. They dress "much like Quakers and they are tall, many standing seven feet tall or more." Journal of Discourses - Vol 13. Page 217 Vol. 13 Journal of Discourses :: Journal of Discourses
  5. I bore my testimony to a friend about God's unconditional love for all of his children, and that friend countered with this scripture: Exodus 20:5 says "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;" My friend goes on to say: "So...he is going to spite myself, my children, my grand and great grandchildren, just because I don't wholly worship him? Yeah, that sounds like love. And the fact that supposedly you are damned to hell for rejecting a God that you have absolutely no proof of. He is like "here, earthlings. Imma put you on this planet and give you this book that is full of contradictions and doesn't fully make sense, and if you don't put all your faith in me you get to spend eternity in fire and brimstone. Also, I'm going to make myself as scarce as possible and not show you or any other human that i really exist." Theres a guy, who created the whole universe, gave up his only son, has the POWER to create an entire universe yet not enough power to save starving abused children or slaves or dying humans, and if you don't worship him you go to hell. But he loves you. Right." As you can see, she's so anti-God and anti-Mormon that I'm really unsure of what to say that can really help her out. I don't want to fuel the fire, but I don't want to shove my beliefs down her throat, either. I just hope that I can come up with the right thing to say that will allow her to stop for a moment and reevaluate her beliefs. If anyone would be so kind as to back me up and share their wisdom, it would be much appreciated. In the meantime, I'm searching for scriptures that will reassure her that God does, in fact, Love us all with a pure and unconditional Love.
  6. My husband says he's mostly willing to talk to the bishop, but he's scared of being turned in because of the pot. Where is the line between a bishop's commitment to confidentiality and his responsibility to report illegal behavior?
  7. In my blessing, it says i shall be called first in first resurrection. does this mean that I will not live until the millenium? i am confused about this and your help would be much helpful! Thank you.
  8. I have a question and since it relates to tithing, I know the generic answer would be, "study it over in your mind for yourself and make a decision". However, I am really having a hard time deciding and would like some input from other members. At my new job, my work provides a Health Savings Account (HSA) which they fund completely. These funds are mine to use for health-related expenses since the deductible is very high ($5000) they fund this HSA with $6000 per year. These funds are mine even if I leave the company. Should I pay tithing on this $6000? I don't pay tithing on the amount my company pays for my health insurance premiums (I don't even know how much that is). I have gone back and forth on this many times here are some the arguments on both sides: For PAYING tithing on the HSA: -When in doubt live the higher law. -This could be considered part of my "increase" since it's a type of compensation my employer gives me. For NOT paying tithing on the HSA: -It's similar to funds that my employer pays for my health insurance on my behalf which I don't tithe. -The funds are restricted to purchasing medical expenses only and therefore aren't like the rest of my paycheck. -If my work had a low-deductible plan, they wouldn't be paying into an HSA for me. I'm sure there are other things I'm not considering and that's one of the reasons I wanted to solicit feedback. I just want to make the right decision and feel confident when I tell Bishop I'm a full-tithe payer at settlement. So let me know what you would do--and more importantly, WHY you would do it.
  9. I have been feeling sorry for this one girl in my church. I dont know if she "is" a member or what. But i see her every so often. I go up to her all the time and welcome her and tell her sit next me and we talk. When we do, she changes the subject but not on purpose (i think she has a mental disease, thats okay) she is like a child, doesn't understand some stuff, so i have to speak to her thruou the class releif society to explain some stuff to her. i see her on the streets all the time and i ponder in my head if i should visit teach her. she says shes a member, and been coming here to this building. she feels most comfortable here also. anyways i prayed and pondered again the other day to know if i should be a visiting teacher to her, i got a response saying i should be but the problem is she is in the other ward/time. i tried this before but wasnt sure, not that i got the complete answer yes i can be her visiting teacher, i can include her with the approval of her ward and my ward. so the question is you think i can use the visiting teaching message, use a picture that goes with that to teach her the lessons in the future? (since she has a hard time understanding stuff):)
  10. Hey there im 23 and im still learning about the church. i go to the temple, do family history (currently in germany), got sealed to my husband who i had prayed for....hooray for the Father! I do not reply much in all this im still very new to this. i would very much would like some buddies in case if i had some questions. lately i have been having some people walk up to me or maybe im walking up to them to (service calls to them to know of the church). i start talking and then they ask in the middle of what im trying to say, whats apostasy? (this past week i told half of the storey, i did look it up, i had print it up also and im going to give to this guy thats athiest), whats this piligamy? i tell them for this we dont believe, we use too way back in the days of joseph smith. And i say this because i want them to know about this awesome young man. But im very good at leaving half of the storey out. But what i should of said pimigamy was only used for this young man joseph at this time ain Father's higher greater good....but not all men were able have alot of wives. i forgot to tell him that part of 'not all men were able to have alot of wives'.....oops!. and then i get a question about 'hell'? whats does mormons believe about hell? so im sitting here thinking about my temple stuff, oh gee what do i say? i tell him there is hell and there is missionaries on the other side.....i went home and asked my husband and i of coarse i missed some stuff "the plan of salvation" , today i see that guy, i will give a pamplet of the plan of salvation. so like i mentions before i need a few buddies in case this happens again, i do ask my church friends, my husband, my family thats mormon....which is my husband side. anyways thanks reading!
  11. I anm reading the Book of Mormon and am enjoying it immensely. I have been a member all my life but grew up on bible stories. I forget that the BofM is scripture and so to me it is a wonderful history book, which it is. My problem is that we are told that if we adhere to the concepts in it we will draw closer to the Lord. So far I haven't found any concepts that makes the B of M any different than the Bible. I am really puzzled, am I looking for more than what is there? I have read the B of M 2 other times but never before has it been so appealing to me. I have a hard time putting it down and can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would have a hard time reading it. I am about chapter 11 in Mosiah. I pray about reading it, but so far haven't read anything that would make it so profound. Like I said, I love the book and am learning some wonderful history about our great country but am I missing the spiritual picture here?
