  1. So, not sure if anyone else knew, but I am fat. And now, I'm tired of being fat. It is uncomfortable, I crash from my eating habits often, and nothing fits to make me feel good; I'm potato shaped in everything. About 4 years ago, I tried out that Whole Foods diet and lost several pounds, got down to 184; had a tiny bit of belly still but I could wear skinny jeans and my face looked awesome! ^.^ Well, I've been not caring about it since then and I have a real problem with food, particularly sweets. I stress eat and chase flavors even after I am full. Now I'm moved to Rexburg, I not only want to change my life as far as schooling and career but also physically as well. As I said, I'm tired of it. So far, I haven't suffered any extreme health problems - digestive is fine, knees and joints are fine, back is fine, pancreas is fine, blood pressure is fine, etc. But I am going to be 30 in August and I know it's time to stop messin' around; the machinery will start falling apart soon if I don't make changes and the wear and tear I've already done might make those sorts of issues inevitable anyway. So, I've only been here a week and my aunt and I are on that 7-day rescue meal plan and she has many more recipes for us to try once we're finished with that. Plus we've been walking in the mornings every day for a mile each day. Drinking water, no more snacking, etc. I've even been walking way more than just a mile a day; one day I walked to campus from where I live and got lost before walking all the way home again; another day I went canvasing for job applications on main street and 2nd East, walking basically nonstop for 2 hours. Plus, once I start school, I'll be walking a whole lot more as well. I weigh myself once a week on Sunday, so, I don't know my progress yet. But I'm 5'9" and weighed 275 lbs. last Sunday. My goal is 180 lbs. because I got to 184 before but I could have been just a little tighter around the middle and it would have been golden. Anyway, this is just a place to record my progress and hopefully get some encouragement. I'll also post my favorite recipes that we do with this meal plan. This is where I'm at right now.
  2. I'm a nevermo from a background where I was exposed to many LDS friends (outside of idaho, utah, or arizona, no less). I've met with missionaries multiple times and read/prayed about the BOM, but never received any spiritual confirmation or feelings on the matter. I do, however, have a weird, random affinity with the WoW. Whenever I have gone to sacrament meetings, it's always brought up, even if it wasn't a planned subject. It's common for me to go to church and hear, "We were going to talk about X, but stuff happened so we're talking about the WOW today." My lifestyle is pretty opposite to the Wow, other than my appreciation of bread. I'm addicted to coffee (have at least 2 strong cups a day), I like a beer or glass of wine to unwind after work, legally smoke cannabis to get sleep, and every year or two partake in illegal party drugs and smoke cigarettes. I was reflecting on my health and the direction it was going, and thought it would be a great idea to try following the WoW to the letter for a month for non-spiritual reasons, then seeing how I feel. This would include things like using meat sparingly (I was thinking of being vegetarian at home, but eating some meat during holiday get-togethers and extended family dinners) , incorporating more seasonal veggies and fruits I wouldn't otherwise eat, and the "classic" no alcohol/coffee/tea/drugs. Are there any suggestions or "words of wisdom" you might have for me before I start? How do you feel about a non-LDS person living the WoW?

What if there was a way of eating that was overwhelmingly supported by the current body of scientific literature and practical experience that reversed almost any disease and made it nearly impossible to get sick? Would you be willing to change the way you eat to reverse heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, and autoimmune conditions? How about reducing allergies and possibly eliminating them and preventing cancer. Would you be excited to listen to people who claim to have been cured of lupus, eczema, psoriasis, Multiple Sclerosis and more by changing the way they eat? Would it improve your opinion at all if I mentioned it also seems in harmony with the word of wisdom? I know I'm pretty excited.
  4. I am a recent convert, but spoke with missionaries for about 8 months prior to joining. I am also over 100 pounds overweight and 6'2. Before I was baptized the missionaries reminded me of the WOW and made me agree to take care better care of my body with what I eat and how I condition it. With most people in my part of the country being overweight, I wonder if the missionaries here focus on this aspect of the WOW more then it sound like its done in outside of Appalachia. I am down a few pounds, but it is hard.
