Find A Grave

Recommended Posts

I have even planned a trip to go and take some photos in Provo the week of July 7th. This great fun... I will need to get a little my courage to write the bios though.

Yesterday after a lot of planning I went grave hopping and took 99 pictures for Find A Grave. Some were for me and some were requests from others. I really had a great time.:)

Strawberry,

Thanks so much for sharing the site! I found pictures of ancestors' headstones on just one line that I looked at. I wasn't even sure where some of them had died. I love to drag my kids in far off little cemeteries looking for headstones of ancestors who were supposedly buried there. This will help. :):):):D:D:):) Now if they moan and groan about it I can blame Strawberry Fields.

My mom volunteers for Find a Grave by taking pictures requested in her area. I've been meaning to do that too. :)

I am curious....

Are these pictures just of graves in the US or all over the world?

OH THANKS!!

I took my son with me to the last cemetary and had him sweep off the graves (dead grass) before I took the pictures. I went to four cemeteries that day and took Elphies broom with me lol. Don't tell her though she might want it back!

Since Genealogy is tied for the most visited web sites with..I am sorry to say..porn..there is a lot of interest on the web. As well as the numerous groups that have formed in states to record cemetery information to be readily available on the web.

In our FHC we use Internment.net also depending on the state, county, country and so on. You can Google search for info. I was born in a small county in western NY..there are so many genealogy, family history, cemetery, and so on sites. It is like the hard work has been done, I only have to link in family.

My county in NY..Chautauqua, will list every cemetery by town, cemetery name and by grave site. There are at least two dozen historians that i have communicated with in this last month for that county only. I have only scratched the surface.

The spirit of Elijah has touched the world...I see a lot of apathetic members regarding the commandment to seek out our ancestors...it is unsettling to me. It is also scary to witness a great deal of the worlds population with a burning desire to search for their ancestors..and they do not know why it is so important, but the do it; and to compare some of us who have been counseled for years to get this accomplished...and still we sit waiting to borrow some oil for our lamps..later, when the need arises....

Joni

oops I nearly forgot. In our FHC we use and recommend Cemetery Records Online We divide our talents, our director is the research guru, the ohter consultant is our PAF genius, and I am the new.familysearch.org peep. You can actually do a google search and come up with a lot of grave/cemetary record locator sites..hint. don't forget to type "+free" in yuor search. Otherwise you will be lead to the ones who want $$ first.
