Recieved My Endowments

Recommended Posts

Yesterday (Saturday) was an amazing day. I woke up at 3:30 AM... met someone at the church to drop off my car, hopped in theirs, and began the 2 1/2 hour trip to the temple on the other side of the island. He was my escort for my first time, and it was great having that time to learn a little more about him and prepare myself for what was going to happen. Of course I won't go into detail on any of this, but it was seriously one of the most spiritually edifying experiences of my life. I wish they had initiatory sessions as often as they do endowment sessions... I was only able to do that once (for myself) and I can't wait to go again as proxy for one who passed on. In preparation for that day, a lot of people were telling me things like "Don't bother trying to remember anything because it's so confusing the first time around..." or saying that I might think it's weird the first time, which really got me worried. To my relief, they were all wrong. Yes, it was a little more than I could memorize the first time around, but everyone was there to help and it was just great. I didn't get a lot of the symbolism when I first went, but today when I was sitting in church a few things came to me... and I understood the meaning behind them. After the first session, I was able to be proxy for a few people in a sealing, which was fantastic. I wish I could go back tomorrow and do it all again. After the sealing I was about to leave because my escort had to make the trip back home, but one of my friends showed up in the men's dressing room and said he was going into a session and that he would take me home, so I went again!

All I can say is "wow". I've just been thinking about it ever since then.

I leave on my mission in less than 3 weeks (August 15th) but hopefully I'll have a few more chances to go while I'm still here. I can't wait to go every week when I get to the MTC... that sounds fantastic.

Another thing people were wrong about.... garments are not uncomfortable. They're actually more comfortable than my usual boxers, so it's not a bad change at all (except it's pretty humid here and wearing the undershirt makes things pretty warm... not that I'll ever be taking it off for that reason, though).

Just thought I'd share my experience.......................... and man, the celestial room is so..... pure. It's so unusual having my mind that clear. Anyway, I hope you all had a great weekend. I'll remember mine for the rest of my life.

There are proxy inititory services. All work for every person who has died without the blessing of the temple services MUST get them. We are their helpers.

The one comment I have to make is you can (distance providing) go back to the temple the next day.

In fact when I was in Oakland, CA I would go to the temple every day after work when I was single and just do initory work or sealings because I didn't have the 2 hours for the full endowment.

LOL one time in the sealing by proxy the sealer forgot where he was and started to seal me to the female proxy, who I must say was paying attention and refused to be sealed to me, bummer! She was cute and I wasn't married.

I was attacked recently on the issue of the garments saying where is it written we must have special clothes (all over the scriptures, but I wasn't about to full her flame) and I simply replied it is a dress code we adhere to for modesty on a 'want-to' basis. It is not forced.

I recall swearing I was going to remove the "Gs" as soon as I left the temple and I have never removed them 25 years later. The Endowment ceremony taught me the importance of them.

When you get to the MTC though notice all the young Elders tugging at their knees, they do take a bit to get used to.

I have not served a mission yet as I am a convert of 12 years. The Endowment is a wonderful thing. When I visit the Temple I switch things up from baptisms, to initiatories, to sealing sessions, to the endowment. I love doing the work for others. My Wife and I went to the Temple and did initiatories for others and then an Endowment session. We were separate of course until we did the Endowment. Well we both had to pick one name out of 7 or 8 to do the session for. We were talking quietly in the Celestial room and realized that we did a husband and wife without even knowing it. It was really cool to know that we were both influenced by the Spirit. When I first heard about the Garments back 11 years ago, I said no way, but the day I received them and instruction for them I realized their importance. I left the Temple feeling quite comfortable in them. I always wear them and feel uncomfortable without them. I even had an instance where a few weeks after receiving them I spilled scalding hot soup on me. My jeans were soaked right through, but I was surprised to see that my Garments were completely dry and I was not burned. Some people will say nonsense, but I believe that it was faith. I have had a few other instances were I'm sure they saved me from injury. They are also a great reminder of things spiritual and temporal. I wish you great luck on your mission and congratulations on your Endowment.

I thought we were not supposed to talk about Temple ordinances?

All anyone has mentioned in here so far is the names of the ordinances, not what they exactly entail. That is what is inappropriate. :)

OP: Congratulations on your wonderful first experience in the Temple! I still remember mine. It was a bit overwhelming with all there is to learn, but then I walked down the hall to the Celestial room and my DH (then fiance) was standing just inside the archway waiting for me, and I just KNEW it was right, even if I didn't understand all of it. I went back the next day, alone, and had an equally amazing experience, and everytime I've been pack I've picked up a bit more of the symbolism. I still can't say I understand the entire thing, but the desire to learn more is what keeps me going.

Not sure what the weather has to do with not wearing garments.

I wouldn't discuss something this sacred on the net.

The things that have been said so far are nothing that anyone that has never gone to the temple would not learn anyway. If they were to get into the nitty gritty details about what goes on...then yes it would be inappropriate.

The choice is really yours. I attended recently a baptism for a 25 yr. old woman who wore her own white blouse and skirt. However, the ward or Stake has baptismal clothing that they will be more than happy to let you use if you desire. Just ask your missionaries, they will arrange it. I suggest you make sure and wear white undergarments and also have a spare dry set to wear afterwards including a spare set of clothing if you furnish your own. Also don't forget to take a dry towel, hairbrush, comb, etc. for use afterwards.

This will be a very special moment for you, so enjoy every minute of it.

Good luck.

Exactly. It's ridiculously humid here and 85 degrees in the "office" I work in (it's a big hot warehouse) but I refuse to not wear them. I love that Heavenly Father gave me something to remember my covenants by, and something that can protect me from physical and spiritual harm... it's a great and wonderful gift. Why would anyone who understood the true meaning and sacred nature of the garments not wear them? By all means, if you're endowed, wear your garments.

I want to go back to the temple this saturday, and even though gas would be $50 to get there I think it's more than worthwhile. I need that extra strength in preparation for what I'm about to do as a missionary.
