You can't build muscle or add weight unless you are consuming more calories than you are expending. That said if someone were overweight they could lose muscle while losing weight and consuming less calories than expended but it is very hard to do it that way. ninjormon Posted February 17, 2009 Report Share Posted February 17, 2009 You can retain muscle even by consuming less calories if you have a substancial amount of protein. Dont go low carb because you need them too. Just cut out the fillers, I read that almost 60 percent of calories in the average american diet come from beverages. Stop drinking anything other than milk, juice, and water and even then only drink single serving sizes, youd be suprized at how small a serving sixe really is.
