I have my testimony on there, as well as quotes from President Hinckley, favorite scriptures, etc. Most of my friends there are LDS, and I also have my family on there. My main problem is too many applications. My friends, and family, are always sending me new applications, and I usually don't have the heart to ignore them! That takes up a lot of time, but it is fun.I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of the invites are forced. Most of your friends probably don't even know what they're doing. I enjoy being able to see what my friends are up to, even when I haven't had time to keep in touch often. And it's fun to reconnect with people. I especially love the fact that it's so much CLEANER than myspace. I can look at my friend's friends without running into porn! I often find other friends that way. eternalpromise516 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Share Posted January 2, 2009 while that's a helpful hint (ignoring them as some have said and ruthie's suggestion of making some kind of note), and in some cases it may work, you're probably still going to get app invites no matter what. if i know i'm not going to use it or look at it every day or every other day, i just go ahead and hit ignore :) and always Always ALWAYS pay attention to what links you're clicking on and KEEP your login info private. some of them can appear to be a authentic link for FB, most commonly a login page, but in reality it's a phising portal someone's setup to harvest/hack usernames/passwords so they can mess around and spam your friends. if that does happen, immediately change your password for FB and maybe even your email account (if they're both the same), so this doesn't happen again. i'd also recommend doing a virus scan for any tracking cookies, viruses, adware/spyware,etc. just to be safe, and even consider putting up a firewall if you want (windows usually comes with one you can turn on). oh, and ruthiechan, i LOVE that flash quote in your siggy, always makes me laugh! Lbybug Posted January 2, 2009 Report Share Posted January 2, 2009 if i start gettings tons of invites from one person on facebook i'll click the "ignore all invites from this person" button. i have, in the past, told people i will delete them if i get more than 3 invites a day. that goes for apps, events, and facebook groups. one piece of advice about facebook groups...and this one really bothers me. i see a lot of people who make groups like "i'm getting married and need your address" or "i lost my phone and need your numbers" or "i'm going on a mission and want to write you". while these are legitimate groups, remember that other people can see this info. people who don't even know anyone involved in the group can see this info (if the creator forgets to make the wall posts private). your best bet is to send a personal, private message to the person who you are trying to give your information to. Lbybug Posted January 2, 2009 Report Share Posted January 2, 2009 oh, and as for the mass invite thing on facebook....for the apps facebook has put a limit of i believe 10 invites a day for the applications....that is not true for groups. it bothers me to see all the new "get a color on your facebook profile...here's how. 1. join this group 2. invite all your friends 3. click this link" most of those are probably going to be some sort of scam. better to stay away. if you're not familiar with a link STAY AWAY. ep's advise is great there. if you see a message from a friend saying "hey i saw your pics on this site! what were you thinking???" then with a link after it, it's probably a phishing scam. talk to your friend about it cause they probably don't even know there was a comment left. i think the "don't talk to stranger" rule can come in handy here. I am a member of Navy For Moms, and I put up a little status bar widget, like what they have on Facebook, and it connects to Facebook, so my Facebook status updates will show up on Navy Moms. The problem is we only use aliases or first names only, to protect our sailors. If I use my Facebook status updates, it will automatically show my full name, thus compromising my son's anonymity. Most of the family is on facebook while I'm pretty much content on myspace. Facebook seems to be way too high maint for someone who logs on about once a week or so. Hence the reason you'll very seldom see me in the chat room. The parenthesis in math problems don't bother me...only trying to do them very fast as in timed games.
