Once a person accepts Christ and the teachings of the Church along with baptism, what areas does that person serve? Is it by spiritual gifts or by the need with in the Church? Does the new member have the option of where they would like to serve, with the leading of the Holy Spirit? Thank you for any answers!

Are you asking about callings in the Church? If so, they are called to positions by the Bishop or one of his counselors. The Bishop receives inspiration from Heavenly Father in this matter. Perhaps they have a quality that would help an individual or organization. Or perhaps they are lacking in some area that the calling could help them grow and learn and progress.

Over time you will get to serve in most every area you can.

Is it by spiritual gifts or by the need with in the Church?

Kind of a little of both. Not really both at the same time. Sometimes people serve in areas because they tell they are good for the job. Others times it might be so you can grow to fill a need in the ward.

If you feel there is an area you would fit better with, you can always bring it up to the Bishop. Its more just a suggestion then anything else. Its really the bishop that goes off what he feels the ward needs.

People get to serve in areas by which they are asked by the inspiration of the holy ghost. Often they are called to develop both spiritually and temporally and to draw out and develop talents. No one is paid, there is not "elections" or biding for callings.

Hope this helps.

Service is not limited to "callings." You can choose to be of service wherever you'd like in addition to your calling. Such as a Primary Teacher could also be involved in the Elder's service project. The Relief Society President might help with the Cub Scouts blue and gold banquet.

A lot of service in and out of the church is done quietly without anyone knowing.

Callings are by inspiration through the Bishop. But there are unlimited opportunities to serve. Service projects, the humanitarian project, compassionate service, VT & HT and the list goes on. Being "anxiously engaged in a good cause" is what it's all about. But don't get too comfortable ... just when you think you h ve your calling figured out and it is going really well ... Heavenly Father will choose to challenge you further. Lots of fun!
