You're wise beyond your years.

why thank you lol i get that a lot

I actually had to look up information about "Obamacare" for a research paper I'm writing.

i found some interesting details inside the bill

(the bill will come into practice in 2014) in 4 years, and hopefully we can get out all of the scumbags in congress next election and replace them with good people, so we can get this bill repealed

details in the bill

1. Private insurance will become illegal

2. Your healthcare will be rationed

3. Any individual that doesn't have acceptable health care (according to the government) will be taxed 2.5% of income

4. Government will restrict enrollment of Special Needs individuals

5. Government mandates program that orders end-of-life treatment; government dictates how your life ends

6. Government will design & implement Home Visitation Program for families with kids & families expecting kids

there's alot more in the bill but here are some of the powers it gives government

I know that we need taxes in a modern nation. However, as long as we remember the phrase, "The power to tax is the power to destroy" then we can keep our elected representatives responsible. If we don't then we will see taxes eat us away like bugs on your tomato plants.

My gosh, are you single? I have lots of friends...

Yes and no. The bill actually mandates everyone to buy (or be provided by an employer) private insurance, so by definition it doesn't make it illegal. Perhaps in the earlier versions of the bill where a public option was on the table there was language to shift people into the public option, but in the bill that was passed, the public option is absent. Healthcare is already rationed- just as someone who doesn't have money for treatment- we use dollars to allocate scarce resources, and medical resources are finite. Your point #3 is an interesting one since it provides families with a tradeoff- since insurance can no longer discriminate against pre-existing conditions, a person could simply not buy insurance and pay the penalty until something major comes up (like cancer). The CBO estimates that the typical penalty for a middle-class individual will only be $1k per year by 2016... that's pretty affordable considering you could always buy insurance when things go really wrong.... so for the folks who only carry catastrophic coverage, they could very well SAVE money this way.

Also- the bill doesn't fix the funding formula for Medicare (aka 'Doc Fix')- that'll be a separate very very expensive bill.

I'm really not sure who the winners in all this are- possibly the insurance industry, definitely companies that provide insurance billing services... the whole thing is a mess. Even if everyone did their 'civic duty' and bought insurance, there wouldn't be enough primary care doctors to see all the new patients demanding healthcare services with their shiny new insurance cards. I really don't like the bill that passed, and I'm displeased that the AMA endorsed it.

And that's what all this is about- whose vision of what a 'modern nation' wins. Unfortunately we have a populace that lacks a basic understanding of how our government is supposed to work, and is so disengaged with politics (or even current events outside of celebrity gossip) that they are simply unable to make a rational voting decision.... voters like that are incapable of keeping their 'elected' representatives accountable, and as a result the interests of the most politically engaged groups (PACs and lobbyists) are what we see pushed forward.

Bread and circuses are the only things that matter anymore :(

Citing a website committed to redefining conservatism and has a staff of four people that ran an article retrieved from a chain e-mail kinds of kills the illusion of wise beyond years, don't you think?

To be fair plenty of 40 year olds would have simply repeated what they heard from a friend of a friend of a friend [starts humming Heard it from a Friend]. Finding some sort of citation (as dubious as this one is) still puts her one up on quite a few... which is kinda scary if you think about it. :-/

I am apalled at the direction the government is taking. There are much better solutions than having the government take over businesses.

But the problem with the government is not the government. It's us. We are simply sitting around and letting them rob us of our freedoms and future.

Isn't this the same method that Hitler used to taken over Germany industry as a whole?

ouch, why so mean?

if you want me to give you more sources then i can....I just put that one up because it had alot of the details in the bill.

I believe the bill is wrong, and should be repealed.

I'm sorry i try to find the truth in everything even if it's not something i want to hear okay?

I research and try to find the truth, not lies just because it's easier for me etc.

I agree with you FirehotEmily. That bill for healthcare was horrible and should be repealed. Sadly I don't believe it will happen.

The only question in my mind is how long our Congress can continue to spend as out of control as they have been and we remain intact as a nation. If things don't drastically change within the several years I wonder if there will even be a United States by the year 2035.
