Justice
If that were the case, then all Christains would believe you have to be baptized by immersion. In fact, not all Christians believe you have to be baptized. But, the Greek word baptize was translated from literally meant to immerse in water. There are places that can be interpreted as immersion, but it's not black and white like it is in the Book of Mormon.Go to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day SaintsGo to the on-line scriptures there and search the New Testament for baptize or baptism (or both) and see what turns up. Guest
Several verses: The following verse show that you need lots of water to baptize. So, it comes to our understanding that it is meant for us to immerse in it, not just sprinkled. Otherwise, why not just go to a shallow stream instead of a river with much water? John 3:23 23 ¶ And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. The following verse shows Jesus come out of the water. He will have to have been immersed for him to come out of it. Mark 1:9-10 9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. 10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: Another one where the person who got baptized came out of the water: Acts 8: 38-39 38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. Then the following verses show baptism as a burial... hence immersion: Romans 6:4 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Colossians 2:12 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
