Favourit Carols !

Thought it might be fun to find out what carols or Christmas songs get everyone in the Christmas mood.

my favourite Carol is Far Far away on Judeas Plain.

My absolute favourite though is O' Holy Night.

A couple of years back a member of a local ward sang it (she is a trained opera singer) and there was not a dry eye. Whenever I hear that song I start to feel excited and full of christmas cheer.

I have sang since I was really little, and have been in quite a few choirs over that time. So having sang a lot of different songs, my favorite songs have become the non-typical ones. The typical/traditional ones, especially in the Mormon world, would include Silent Night, Joy to the World...etc, all the ones would find in the Hymn book...and I love all of those too.

But my favorites are:

"Baby, Lying in a Manger"

"What Child is This"

"Ding-dong Merrily on High"

"Masters in this Hall"

And, from Handel's Messiah, "Unto Us a Child is Given" and the "Halleluhiah Chorus".

With the exception of "What Child is This" and "Unto Us a Child is Given", I've sang all of them a few times in different choirs, which adds to my love of them.

I have more, but my list would go on forever. But I love the Christmas season, especially the music... I especially love listening the the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas albums; they are always incredible and never fail to put me in the Christmas mood.

My fave is Oh Holy Night too. It always gives me chills. I also like Hark the Herald Angels sing and Carol of the Bells. Especially the version of Carol of the Bells by Transiberian Orchestra. I could listen to it over and over again.

I have two favorites. Oh Holy Night. The version by Josh Groban just gives me chills. I also love "Mary Did you Know? The version by Donny Osmond

One of my favorite carols would be The Holly and the Ivy - but here in Alberta there's a TV commercial (advertising a free iPod nano with internet service) with a hippo walking across the screen and a little girl (voice over) is singing I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas. This particular song was recorded by Gayla Peevey in 1953. It's a very adorable song and everyone here where I live now knows it quite well because of the commercial - and the radio station I listen to plays the full version of the song at least once a day. Here's the chorus:

Editing to add that the hippo in the commercial lives in the Vancouver Zoo and her name is Hazena!

Although I am partial to Afred Burt carols, seeing the choir ringing those bells and singing "Hark, The Herald Angels Sing" makes me instantly remember who's birth we are celebrating. I can't help beleive that He is so happy knowing that we love Him and do remember his lowly birth here in this sphere.

David: In fact I've got a six year old son. And he really gets excited around the Christmas holiday-thing.

Bing: Do you go in for any of the traditional things in the eh Bowie household, Christmas time?

David: Oh yeah, most of them really. Presents, a tree, decorations, agents sliding down the chimney...

David: I was just seeing if you were paying attention.

Bing: Haha!

David: Actually, our family do most of the things that other families do. We

David: Oh, I even have a go at 'White Christmas'.

Bing: You do, uh!
