Jacob Chapter 6Â*

5 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I beseech of you in words of soberness that ye would repent, and come with full purpose of heart, and cleave unto God as he cleaveth unto you. And while his arm of mercy is extended towards you in the light of the day, harden not your hearts.

“Arm of the Lord”

The “arm of the Lord” is a commonly used metaphor for the power of God in the Bible in the context of creation (see Jeremiah 32:17), in the redemption of Israel from Egypt (see Exodus 15:16; Deuteronomy 4:34), and in his deliverance of Israel in the last days (see Isaiah 40:10; 52:10). In the Book of Mormon, the image of the “arm of the Lord” occurs in the context of the restoration of the gospel and the coming forth of the Book of Mormon (see 1 Nephi 22:10-11; Enos 1:13), and the “arm of mercy” is associated with the power of the Atonement on behalf of the repentant (see Jacob 6:5; Mosiah 29:20; Alma 19:36).
