The Spiral Staircase -- My Climb Out of Darkness

A frank biography that is probably a difficult read for the close-minded. I cringed in many places, as I think was appropriate. The last chapter was worth it all. A great, true story.

I've read her books "The Case for God" and "The Great Transformation: The Beginning of Our Religious Traditions". Both are HUGE.

But this one was only 306 pages, and was a wonderful read.

Hmm, it sounds interesting. What's the author's background?

Raised Roman Catholic

Joint a convent at age 17 that specialized in the Nativity and teaching

Stayed 9 years or so

While studying at Oxford for her bachelors, left off being a Nun, became secular

Continued her studies, found she had epilepsy, became a teacher

Became an atheist

Became a believer of sorts and found her calling: Writing on religion
