Question about sealings after death

Recommended Posts

I have a question about sealings. I know that for you to do proxy sealings today in the temple the couple must be married legally on this earth. How do sealings work in the millennium? For a single righteous woman who is dead, how does she get sealed to a man during that time if she was never legally married on earth? Can she have someone alive during the millennium get married for her and then she can be sealed? What about a woman who was sealed to a man her whole life but really wanted to be sealed to another but they never got the chance to get married in this life. Would she be able to get married by proxy and then sealed to that other man during the millennium and then choose between the two men she was sealed too?

If a woman was single in this life, then any marriage and marital sealing will be done in the next life. She can be sealed to her parents.

For any woman who was sealed in this life, but wants to be sealed to another man, the Lord will sort out all of that for them in the next life.

Sealing of Living Members after a Spouse’s Death

Women. A living woman may be sealed to only one husband.

Men. If a husband and wife have been sealed and the wife dies, the man may have another woman sealed to him if she is not already sealed to another man. In this circumstance, the man does not need a sealing clearance from the First Presidency unless he was divorced from his previous wife before she died (see the previous heading for the policy in cases of divorce).

Applying for a Cancellation of Sealing or a Sealing Clearance

A woman who has previously been sealed must receive a cancellation of that sealing from the First Presidency before she may be sealed to another man in her lifetime. A man who has been divorced from a woman who was sealed to him must receive a sealing clearance from the First Presidency before another woman may be sealed to him (see “Sealing of Living Members after Divorce” above).

If the bishop and stake president decide to recommend that a cancellation of sealing or a sealing clearance be granted, they submit an Application to the First Presidency form. This form is available electronically in units that use Church record-keeping software. Leaders of these units should not contact the Office of the First Presidency to obtain a copy. The form is available from the Area Presidency in other areas. Instructions are on the form. Before submitting the application, the stake president makes sure that the divorce is final and that the applicant is current in all legal requirements for child and spousal support related to the divorce.

If a member has requested a cancellation of sealing or a sealing clearance, he or she may not schedule an appointment for a temple marriage or sealing until receiving a letter from the First Presidency giving notice that the cancellation or clearance has been granted. The person should present this letter at the temple.

You better have a very good excuse for canceling a sealing especially for the deceased. It had better be for abuse. or if he was unfaithful. Those who say it will be taken care of in the next life may be well correct. The man you want to be sealed to may have found another, and is done, and he or the wife may not want you sealed. Second if your canceling for all the wrong reasons your current spouse may not want you either, and cancel on you because you marriage was based on falsehood. Your apt to wind up with no one. Better reread the parable of the ten virgins. Be careful of what you pray for you just might get what you ask.

When I went to my bishop to get a clearance he volunteered his mom's story to me. After his bio-dad died she got a cancellation. It took her 14 years of trying before it was granted.

Anyway that was his story.
