Stories about Justice in the Book of Mormon

The land of Ammonihah, where the Zoramites lived, is a very powerful story of the Lord's justice.

If you remember, Alma goes to Ammoniha hafter preaching in the land of Melek. He is rejected, then leaves. The Lord then tells him to return, so he went to the south entrance to the city and met Amulek. Alma and Amulek confound the lawyers who content against them, namely Zeezrom. They are cast into prison and delivered by the power of God, after having to witness the burning of believers and their families.

Alma, Amulek, and Zeezrom all flee to a neighboring town, Sidom. The story mentioned that there had been peace for years before and for 14 years after what happens next.

An army of the Lamanites came to the borders of the city of Ammonihah and destroyed the city. Before the Nephites could gather a sufficient army and defeat the army of Lamanites, one thing happened. Ammonihah was utterly destroyed. The story climaxes with these verses:

Alma 16

9 And thus ended the eleventh year of the judges, the Lamanites having been driven out of the land, and the people of Ammonihah were destroyed; yea, every living soul of the Ammonihahites was destroyed, and also their great city, which they said God could not destroy, because of its greatness.

10 But behold, in one day it was left desolate; and the carcasses were mangled by dogs and wild beasts of the wilderness.

11 Nevertheless, after many days their dead bodies were heaped up upon the face of the earth, and they were covered with a shallow covering. And now so great was the scent thereof that the people did not go in to possess the land of Ammonihah for many years. And it was called Desolation of Nehors; for they were of the profession of Nehor, who were slain; and their lands remained desolate.

It's interesting that:

8 And they came upon the armies of the Lamanites, and the Lamanites were scattered and driven into the wilderness; and they took their brethren who had been taken captive by the Lamanites, and there was not one soul of them had been lost that were taken captive. And they were brought by their brethren to possess their own lands.

So, the story notes that not one soul of non-Ammonihahites was lost. But, all the Ammonihahites were destroyed.

This is among the most complete and most swift justice found in the Book of Mormon. This story intrihues me. I love studying it. I know there's a lot to learn from it. It starts in Alma 8 and ends in 16, and Alma and Amulek's preaching in this story is among the more revelatory found in the Book of Mormon. Alma 12 is a jewel, and one of my top favorite chapters in scripture.

As if that was enough, these Zoramites were followers of Nehor. Later, in Alma 30, the Zoramites in Antionum are followers of Korihor. Even though Korhior admits his fraud on his death bed, he still has thousands of followers. This is where Alma and the greatest missionary team ever assembled preach to people who worship on the rameumptom. As you know, this is where we get more awesome teaching from, like Alma 32. More justice awaits in this part (part 2) of the story.
