Spiderjohn Posted August 29, 2006 Report Share Posted August 29, 2006 I was wondering if anyone has some ideas how to get information prior to obtaining a death certificate. Here is the situation. I lost track of my brother over 20 years ago. I found something on Ancester.com that indicates it could be my brother. A couple of things are off. His day of birth. Should be Nov 3, but shows Nov 11. Middle name is Marshall, but shows Michael. But other information is correct. Possible reason for discrepencies is that there is no other living relitive, so if something happend to my brother, someone could have guessed at it. Genealogy is fun but very frustrating at times. :)ThanksSpiderjohn....from my experience chances are if he's not listed in the SS death index...he's still alive. Also, Ancestor.com, although not infalable is very very accurate so you can assume the name you found is accurate and not your brother. There are other sources you can try but they are in no way inexpensive...try using Google and put in the words "people search", I'm sure you'll get dozens of links to search engines that might find his name and location...good luck! Or his exact birthday. I tried all those things you mentioned and I keep getting the same information. It's all close to him, but not 100% accurate.
