Well, Americans are willing to live with this since we all want cheap oil.

Saudis behead woman for practicing witchcraft

A Saudi woman in her 60s was beheaded today for being a witch, according to reports out of the desert kingdom.

Amina bint Abdul Halim bin Salem Nasser was executed in the northwest province of Jawf. She was convicted of "practicing witchcraft and sorcery," the Interior Ministry said in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency, AFP says. The country's high court upheld the death penalty.

No. First we pull all troops out. Then declare war, and then bomb Riyadh and overthrow a barbaric regime.

So, Hoosier, let me make sure I understand you correctly.

You believe we should go to war against a sovereign nation that has not attacked us, killing thousands or perhaps millions of them and putting our own troops in mortal peril, because you don't like how their laws or how they enforce them. In other words, you think we should impose our moral and societal system on a foreign nation that has done nothing to us except sell us oil.

Did I capture your thoughts adequately?

That makes sense. Pull all troops out and then declare war? So wouldn't that mean having to send troops back out again?

Uh, I'm confused. Are you talking about the Iraq war? Because you described it to a T!

We try to pick a fight with Iran. And look at this map on Juan Cole's site - it shows the U.S. has bases surrounding Iran. Iran has US Surrounded, All Right | Informed Comment

As for Saudi Arabia - don't forget 9/11. Don't forget who owns a good portion of Fox News. Don't forget the American moms who can't get their children back because their Saudi husbands took the kids to Saudi Arabia and refuses to return.

So then, that's a "yes"?

There are dozens of countries in the world that mistreat their citizens in horrible ways. As long as they keep it within their own borders, it is hard to justify sending troops into harms way. Where's the national interest? That said, to annewandering's comment that this (similar situations) is "why we go to war every time."

WWII - attacked by Japan, Germany declared war on us.

Korea and Vietnam - our communist enemies were trying to spread into previously free(er) countries.

Iraq 1 - We acted after Iraq invaded a sovereign neighbor - Kuwait.

Afganistan - We acted in respsonse to 9/11 invading a country that was actively supporting Al Qaeda. While Saudi's were a part of the attack, it was individuals, not the government that did so.

Iraq 2 - We acted after years on non-compliance with UN Resolutions enacted after Iraq 1 that were designed to keep a dangerous regime in check. (Essentially it was a continuation of the first Iraq war). Intelligence available at the time - that nearly every nation in the world believed - indicated that they were working on WMD of various types. As he had used them before we had every reason to believe that he would do it again.

Don't think theres much we can do at this point as a government other than disapprove of it.

So, what's so special about this regime? Why do you want the US troops to focus on this one? Why not North Korea? Why not Darfur? Why not one of the others that are doing atrocious things to their own people?

Why not our own for that matter? Our government may not be doing anything as obviously atrocious, but it is still in serious need of reform.

Have you actually read that site? Juan Cole and his followers are a bunch of idiots. And now you're advocating going to war over the internal laws of a sovereign nation without first attempting diplomatic means or economic sanctions? Funny how you want to make peace with Iran, a country which openly makes threats upon us, and want to wage war on a country that wishes to be our friends. I thought you were the one denouncing war and calling conservatives the war-mongers. Yeah, I think you've lost every bit of credibility that you think you had before.
