Why haven't the current LDS prophets "updated" the revelation? (or have they?)

Isn't that their job?

:dontknow:

Josh B)

Why hasn't the Old Testament been updated by the Christian religions?

We don't claim to have living prophets................ :)

Josh B)

"we" was the wrong word. lol.

Because... "we" (as LDS) do.

No, I dissagree we were obviously not taking about the LDS

Why hasn't the Old Testament been updated by the Christian religions?

Since the subject is "Christian religions" not "LDS" my saying "we" would be approprite.

With that argument, you're saying that the Law of Moses should have been taken out or rewritten completely when the New Testament was written.

Yup, Hebrews 8

Hebrews 8

The High Priest of a New Covenant

1The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man.

3Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. 4If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law. 5They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain."[a] 6But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

7For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. 8But God found fault with the people and said:

"The time is coming, declares the Lord,

when I will make a new covenant

with the house of Israel

and with the house of Judah.

9It will not be like the covenant

I made with their forefathers

when I took them by the hand

to lead them out of Egypt,

because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,

and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.

10This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel

after that time, declares the Lord.

I will put my laws in their minds

and write them on their hearts.

I will be their God,

and they will be my people.

11No longer will a man teach his neighbor,

or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,'

because they will all know me,

from the least of them to the greatest.

12For I will forgive their wickedness

and will remember their sins no more."[c]

13By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

It says that they will all know the Lord..

They don't all know the Lord...

And we have to preach...

That law isn't even in place yet!

Am I wrong in thinking that this sounds like the millenium?(sp?)

I could be wrong.. that is just the impression I got... that is all..

Nope,

This is contrasting the difference between the Old Covenant (law of Moses) and the New Covenant (Jesus)

Prophets today, since Joseph Smith, have "updated" the word of wisdom.

Just go to lds.org and do a search with those words to say what they've said about that.

And btw, if it helps, I think God was mainly teaching a "principle"...

... a principle with a "promise"...

... for those who seek wisdom from God.

Oh, cool B)

Is it in the D&C?

Josh B)

They don't change the D&C that often because than the church would have to make new ones, and everyone would need to get new ones.

My friend is already inconvienianced enough because she doesn't have the last two sections, and her intro is different.

Exactly Josh. Just like in the time of Christ, the Living Prophet today continues to receive new revelations and scriptures. That doesn't mean we go back and rewrite the past.

I'm not saying to you should, when I posted that, no one had mentioned that it has been "updated"

However, this "update" (in my opinion) should be added to the D&C

Why? The meat thing, or the other thing?

The other thing is already in the OT... the mean thing is hardly important!

Why should we waste our time?

Why should the D&C be updated? Because (as I have been told again and again) everything is only a prophet's opinion unless it is cannonized.

If it says in a Standard work,

You shouldn't eat meat in the summer

but this in no longer the will of God,

the Standard work should be updated.
