pam
Red Cross and LDS Church partner up at Welfare Square | ksl.comSALT LAKE CITY — The American Red Cross and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a new partnership Wednesday morning at Welfare Square. The two partners have had a working relationship for 25 years, but Wednesday's announcement is about a formal contract or memorandum that makes communication on a local level throughout the country that much easier. Guest
We have frequent Red Cross blood drives at our building. There is a couple in our ward called to coordinate the drives, and we supply the snacks (and most of the blood!). I think it's a great partnership. pam
And then again, this wasn't to point out a group and how they are not charitable. So many think the church should spend their money on other things so we hear that quite often. But we shouldn't stoop to the level of pointing out the faults in another group. Wingnut
Here's the official article from the Church News & Events page: Church, Red Cross Strengthen Relationship with Memorandum - Church News and EventsI especially like this part:“Under our new agreement, the Red Cross and the Church will coordinate even more on disaster planning—things like training, drills that we conduct, and even using Church facilities for potential shelters,” Ms. McGovern said. “Also, blood donations continue to be a vital part of our partnership.”Also, from the LDS Newsroom (the articles are slightly different): Church and Red Cross Sign Agreement to Continue RelationshipI like this:“I would like the public to know,” said McGovern, that “the Red Cross is more prepared than ever when disaster strikes because of the relationship we have with the LDS Church.”
Backroads
As an LDS member and a Red Cross instructor, I find this to be awesome news.
Wingnut
Sorry Pam, just a pet peeve of mine - to see the bleeding hearts marching around in parades etc. etc. claiming everyone but them are heartless stiffs, when the truth of the matter is quite different...I've never heard anyone claim that. Vort
I've never heard anyone claim that.Perhaps not in those words, but the message is unmistakable: "If you do not agree with me, you are ignorant, bigoted, and hateful." There is a reason such people usually call themselves "progressive".
Rivet
That's really cool. The Red Cross provides many services to our country. I am less familiar with the activities of the LDS church, but I understand they do a lot of relief and welfare work, so it seems like a good match. :)
