Satan's little ironies

  • Pornography has become freely available, perhaps moreso than at any other time in history. Society is saturated with sex, which is portrayed and discussed at every turn. Yet despite this -- indeed, because of this -- an upcoming generation of young men find themselves largely unable to engage in normal sexual relations, because regular women just do not appeal to them. They require increasingly perverse and decadent stimulation even to feel sexual arousal.

Meanwhile, those sexually repressed Mormons keep on chuggin' along...

  • Women have more legal rights than at any other time in history. In point of fact, the educational institutions of today cater to girls and young women at the expense of boys and young men, who are largely relegated to second-class status. Yet women freely give up their rights, power, and status to pursue vanities, and turn their backs on their own divine endowments and inborn abilities as women by avoiding children and families, or in other cases pursuing motherhood as an independent activity instead of a partnerhood, along the lines of a career choice or vacation destination.

Meanwhile, those Mormon women build actual communities of caring individuals and raise intact, functioning, happy families...

  • Relationships are front and center in our society. You cannot turn on the television without a soap opera of some sort bleating from the speakers, whether in a forensics show, action-adventure, comedy, or...well...soap opera. Women's magazines rake in millions of readers and dollars discussing every nuance of interpersonal activity. It's as if the entire nation is in a constant, never-ending Relationship Therapy session. Yet the political environment has rarely been so toxic and never more polarized. The Satan-inspired "war between the sexes" is, if anything, stronger than it was during the 1970s feminists-burning-their-bras days with the heady, man-hating rhetoric of Andrea Dworkin. As our 50%+ divorce rate and head-spinning flight from marriage demonstrate, if there is anything our generation is incapable of doing well, it is making and supporting intimate interpersonal relationships.

Meanwhile, those backward Mormons keep marrying each other "for time and all eternity", with a divorce rate less than half of the population as a whole...

  • The cult of individualism has taken over Western thought. Each person is believed to be utterly unique and is encouraged to find his or her own personal path to fulfillment or enlightenment or whatever. "Conformity" is, in the eyes of many, the worst possible sin, to be met only with contempt and derision. Yet the result is hordes of people running out to get their bodies pierced and tatted up -- both of which are ancient and long-standing symbols of slavery -- so that they can be unique and individualistic, just like all their friends. Morality, such as it is, is strictly a lowest-common-denominator affair. The wonder of individuality is celebrated by what color you want to spray-paint your head today.

Meanwhile, those Mormon zombies keep teaching antiquated moralism to their brainwashed brats, resulting in young adults who make rational decisions based on their own well-considered values...

  • Tolerance is the deity of the modern American intellectual. The word itself is a shibboleth of social status; how are we to get along without genuflecting at the altar of the great god Tolerance? Indeed, we must absolutely tolerate (by which we mean "accept and embrace") all manner of sexual deviance and antisocietal actions, thus showing how emotionally and societally evolved we are. Yet this idea of "tolerance" applies only to the ideas accepted by those who push tolerance. Indeed, to champion any idea that does not agree with the group Goodthink is to ensure one's marginal status and invite mockery from the Tolerance crowd.

Meanwhile, those shamelessly intolerant Mormons keep preaching their hateful brand of what they call "morality" while simultaneously inviting everyone to join them and worship their God...

The only reasonable conclusion: Mormons are weirdos.

Tolerance means: tol·er·ance   [tol-er-uhns]

noun

1.

a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one's own; freedom from bigotry.

2.

a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from one's own.

3.

interest in and concern for ideas, opinions, practices, etc., foreign to one's own; a liberal, undogmatic viewpoint.

4.

the act or capacity of enduring; endurance: My tolerance of noise is limited.

5.

Medicine/Medical, Immunology .

a.

the power of enduring or resisting the action of a drug, poison, etc.: a tolerance to antibiotics.

b.

the lack of or low levels of immune response to transplanted tissue or other foreign substance that is normally immunogenic.

It does not mean acceptance at all.

Individualism is a good thing. Getting what your friends get is not individualism even if they think it is. No great idea or creation was ever made without individual thought and creativity.

Great micro-essay @Vort. I didn't even realize it was an old thread but nonetheless exactly applicable to us right now. Thumbs up to the weirdo Latter-day Saints!!

P.s. Wasn't aware of the tattoo/piercing slave connection until now, cool fun info.

I would disagree.  I would say that secular society views anyone with passionate faith (no matter
what religion) as weird.

As a general rule everybody views anyone with a different opinion as weird.  I know that I do.

This is the only one needing an update.  As same-sex marriage (and other things) gained majority acceptance in US culture, calls for 'love and tolerance' became less and less useful at forwarding various narratives.

For example, what is critical race theory, if not the exact mirror image opposite of tolerance?

You say you disagree, then you show that you actually agree.  You have a funny way of expressing yourself.  A perfect study of self-contradiction.

Most people don’t care. It’s more of a “you do you” sort of thing.

But, everyone plays this card. Catholics, atheists, Muslims. We love seeing ourselves, and, our faith/beliefs as persecuted. It makes us feel noble.
