Vort
Hi everyone. I have a question . How did Jesus get the Priesthood during His mortal life? The Priesthood is the authority of Jesus Christ. For our purposes, Priesthood authority originates from the Lord.If there is any sense in which the Lord "received" the authority of the Priesthood -- and I do not assume that there is -- then without doubt he received that authority from his Father. BenRaines
Agree with Vort. Priesthood is the authority to act in Christ's name. He held keys that we do not even hold today. Keys of Resurrection for example. Ben Raines
Dravin
The Priesthood is the authority of Jesus Christ. For our purposes, Priesthood authority originates from the Lord.To that end it can be helpful to remember the original/full/proper name of the Melchizedek priesthood.2 Why the first is called the Melchizedek Priesthood is because Melchizedek was such a great high priest.3 Before his day it was called the Holy Priesthood, after the Order of the Son of God.4 But out of respect or reverence to the name of the Supreme Being, to avoid the too frequent repetition of his name, they, the church, in ancient days, called that priesthood after Melchizedek, or the Melchizedek Priesthood.
