I had some dark brown sugar dated bb:2009 and sealed it up in 2011 in vacuum sealed glass jar. When I opened it - it had whitish(discolored) spots on some of it. Who are the lds experts that know if this is safe or not. Since there is talk on Oz and web about botulism when storing brown sugar for long time. I have some light brown sugar in 1/2 gallon jars but haven't checked it out yet.Untill I find out the answer, I'm going to use white sugar with molasses when a recipe calls for brown sugar.
