The screenwriters weren't the ones who ruined it.  The comics changed him into "Nomad" after the events of the Civil War story arc.  After the US government passed a law so "Un-American" he realized that the America he once knew was not the one he lived in anymore.  So, he could no longer hold onto the idea of being a "symbol of America."  So, he took on a new name and new style.  He was an independent man without a country -- hence "Nomad".

I wasn't aware of that story arc, but it makes sense. I was just about to comment that, if anything, Cap lost his "apple pie" image in Civil War, confirmed with some unflattering remarks in Spiderman Homecoming. I actually would have been very disappointed if, after all that, he returned in Infinity War in his same spit-and-polish form as if nothing had gone wrong between him and his country.

It was a little more obvious in the comics due to timing and that the law in question was "The Superhero Registration Act".  And the story arc happened right around the time of the Patriot Act.  So, it was meant to be a social commentary.  I didn't really get into the entire story line.  But I've read summaries.

Interesting Spiderman element:  He was uncertain about which side to take.  But he trusted Iron Man.  He gave him the "Iron Spider-suit" which gave him some amazing abilities, including short ranged flight.  But it was wreaking havoc with his spider-sense.  So, he hacked into it to figure out what was happening.  When he found out that the suit was also a fail-safe, he re-programmed it and joined team Cap.

The original "Civil War" story arc was a lot *worse* than that.

The basic plan was "How can we get supers fighting each other?".

What things degenerated into was "a whole bunch of writers going off on their own and using the event as a means to voice their political opinions, up to and including declaring that anyone who disagreed with them politically was no better than a Nazi".

Most actual honest observers regard it as a massive misstep, and perhaps the first clear sign that the social justice movement had infiltrated the comic industry.

What did you think of Infinity Wars, @Ironhold?

My reservation is for tomorrow.

Today I'm bracing for that gender-reversed remake of "Overboard" that's set to come out next week by re-watching the original so I have a proper frame of reference.

If I'm familiar with previous incarnations of a film, I reserve the right to make comparisons.

I disagree with the bolded part.

Yes, the original idea put forth was "how can we...?"  But the answer was "What if we did a parallel to the Patriot Act where teams of superheroes take sides?"  That was what they ran with.

I do believe there was coordination on the overall storyline.  But this wasn't the first time they made social commentary with comic books.  They had already been making liberal statements throughout the 90s.  Of course, they'll never admit that anymore than they will admit that they now have an entire staff made up of SJWs. It makes me wonder why they're not forced to make more modest outfits for the female characters.

I believe the reductio ad hitlerium was simply a reflection of most Americans (including the writers) of the time.

Saw Tomb Raider last weekend.  Not a bad movie   Better than the reviewers said

As as a guy I can say Alicia Vikander is enough reason alone to see this movie.

The whole time I was watching this movie, I thought the Alicia was the girl in Kong Skull Island.

I just saw Infinity War and these are my spoiler-free thoughts.

- People are calling it the Empire Strikes Back of a new generation. Those people are right.

- DC writers probably watched this movie and thought "Man, that's dark".

- I know there are very few, if any, Game of Thrones fans who are LDS, but you're about to find out what it feels like.

- Overall I really enjoyed the movie. It was an emotional roller coaster and the story was a bit all over the place, but I thought it was a very worthy capstone on the MCU's first 10 years. Definitely looking forward to Captain Marvel now. And I'll also have to catch up on Ant Man (that and the original Thor are the only MCU films I haven't seen).

- The shot that was widely used to promote the movie is deliberately misleading.

I don’t suppose you could recommend some Mormon friendly movies or tv shows? I am really tired of programs and movies for children. Although Stranger Things was great! Many thanks!

What age range / rating range are you looking at?

Does it matter what it costs to get them?

Any particular genres to favor or avoid?

edit -

And yes, I have to ask -

Everything above board, or wink wink nudge nudge?

edit edit -

Before anyone says anything...

There's a plethora of material online whose legal status is, to put it best, unclear.

Many of these items may still be legally owned by someone in some fashion, but the owners aren't enforcing copyright and may have even functionally abandoned the material.

For example, the infamous 1994 Roger Corman-helmed "Fantastic Four" movie was regarded by Marvel Comics as so potentially damaging to the brand due to how awful it was that Marvel ordered all of the prints destroyed, but one print survived and the footage was released online. The Fantastic Four as characters are still owned by Marvel, but with the destruction of all but this one print and the lack of effort by Marvel or the studio to suppress copies thereof that are online could be argued as abandonment of the film itself.

Or there's the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special, which was similarly deemed so bad by the powers-that-be that all prints were supposed to have been destroyed; at least one print made it out, and other people still have the videos they themselves recorded when it aired. One doesn't have to do much effort to track it down, either.

This is a grey area that some people just aren't comfortable with, hence my asking.

I'm not sure what you mean by misleading.

The “misleading photo” as mentioned by @Godless is only as misleading as this photo. There is a small aspect in this image that isn’t how it is in the movie.

Same situation with the infinite war image often used. There are aspects that are only minorly mislead.

@Ironhold. Thanks so much! I am hoping for content for me that is lds friendly. I can track down a lot of old stuff and new through our interconnected system of libraries so feel free. I don’t like superheros unless it is funny. My super ex girlfriend was great! Have you seen this?

Anything that an lds female would like would be good. A mystery, drama, or detective show or movie would be nice. Content made for HBO, Netflix etc is normally too sexual and sometimes horrifically so!  I tried Breaking Bad for a few episodes but I could not take the darkness. A lot of UK series set in modern times are very extreme. The savage crimes depicted in many UK detective shows ruins the story lines about the main characters.

I hope that BYU tv will make some good content. Perhaps they will produce some mysteries or detective shows? Thanks so much!

Are you talking about how he looks more like "Dad"?

I haven't seen Infinity War yet.  So, I don't know how that parallels.  But I guess I'll find out.

Now that I think about it, this image isn't misleading at all, though there were other Thor-related shots in IW promos that were.

This one is misleading! His eye doesn’t look like it is suppose to.

The aforementioned "Fantastic Four" film is pure cheese, such that some folks do in fact want to see Marvel man up and permit an official release.

As far as older television shows go, check your local cable or satellite provider. There are a whole slew of channels dedicated to older programming in the US, such as MeTV, Retro TV, Antenna TV, Cozi TV, and others. Most offer a mix of programming from the 1950s to the early 2000s, with anything that might truly be questionable (such as "The Alfred Hitchcock Show") or dated (most anything in black & white) typically reserved for the overnight hours.

From there, a few anime bits I can recommend:

Lost Universe - Cult classic sci-fi anime from the 1990s. The main characters are a trio of "trouble contractors", heroes-for-hire who handle everything from escort missions to anti-terrorist operations. They're good, but they're also very, very eccentric... and with good reason, as for all three some of their eccentricities are tied to tragedies that happened in the past. Content-wise most episodes are between TV-G and TV-PG, but some of the episodes do deal with dark themes that include death. Nozomi Entertainment, the company that currently has the rights to the English dub, has put all 26 episodes up for free viewing on their YouTube channel.

Robot Carnival - Cult classic sci-fi anime anthology from the 1980s. Then-fledgling APPP commissioned this film as a showcase of what they could do, and it's generally regarded as helping fuel the anime boom in North America because of it. It's seven shorts featuring robots book-ended by a pair of shorts about the titular Robot Carnival, an automated traveling show so badly suffering from decades of neglect that the screams it elicits are from fear instead of glee. Discotek did a new release back in 2016, with a Blu-Ray out late last year.

Transformers - Karyuudo Fansubs (look them up on YouTube) has been slowly doing subtitles for various Japanese Transformers series. "Car Robots" is kid-friendly burning justice (this version of Optimus Prime transforms into a fire engine), and Beast Wars Neo is due out this fall, but you'll want to skip Beast Wars II due to the juvenile humor in the source material.
