skippy740
There used to be a Seventies Quorum in all the wards. I've met a few on my mission where were still in the priesthood office of Seventy. Their focus was missionary work and was 'folded' into the Elder's Quorum sometime in the 70's. (No pun intended.) The order went: Elder - Seventy - High Priest. So yeah, depending on the age of the member remembering that far back, there could be a little controversy. Just_A_Guy
Really? I've never heard that.Bycommonconsent.com has had a couple of series of posts on the evolution of specific priesthood offices, and it was somewhere in one of those. Brigham Young apparently felt the office of apostle superseded all other offices (that was more or less the position he took during the succession crisis). Joseph F. Smith was basically self-trained, theologically, and on a strict reading of the D&C (I think section 107, but my memory could be off) he concluded that the right to presidency pertained to the office of high priest.
