Porn seems to be a big topic of discussion here.

I had someone say to me recently that some of the pictures on a certain site I am on is considered soft porn.

It is a fitness site, it is about weight loss / muscle gain / general fitness with the stronger emphasis on fitness.

So what constitutes "soft porn"?

Is it a picture of a man or woman in body building mode showing the difference between their cut and uncut bodies?

There was 1 fellow who posted a picture asking why he now has this odd muscle that did not seem normal and asked for advice - turns out it was "ädonis belt" and apparently desirable in the body building world.

I thought it was simply about anatomy!

So is porn, where there is only 1 person in the frame, about intent?

The photos I have seen I would have no issue showing my children - so nothing I would consider sexual in nature.

Everyone will have their own thoughts but if you're finding yourself sexually stimulated viewing something, perhaps you ought to reevaluate the material and not view it. Some will argue that certain kinds of art is porn. I don't. Some might think that birthing videos are pornographic. I don't. I guess if your mind's in the gutter, everything suddenly becomes filthy.

soft or softcore porn usually refers to pornography where there is no visible penetration or visible genitals, but yeah generally things meant for education don't fall under the category of pornography

I agree, birth videos are disturbing. Not because they are pornographic, but because I find the birthing process to be messy and gross. Ew.

I've seen hamburger/shampoo/rice/etc commercials I would consider soft porn. Not so much because I was stimulated by it but clearly the goal of the creators was to cause stimulation.

Anatomy and education (nursing/birth pics/videos) are not soft porn ................. that said if you have had a problem with porn in the past anything that shows the body in any way may be stimulating to you personally. I would advise that person know their strengths and weaknesses and avoid such images. That doesn't mean they get to regulate it for the world, they just need to accept who they are.

To the OP, I am a certified personal trainer and a Beachbody Coach. I manage a website and also a facebook page. I run across many fitness sites with athletes of all types, both genders, modeling equipment, programs, supplements or themselves. As one who is sensitive to the kind of "soft porn" suggested in your post, I have observed that the difference is when either male or female models pose provocatively in any degree. I stay away from sites where, for example, female athletes, fitness models, etc, pose just to show off their glutes with their backs arched, etc. Are they promoting wellness and/or fitness or are they attracting your attention or iliciting base desires?

Contrast that from a female athlete who is competing in a olympic tournament who is at the bottom of an overhead squat or a crossfitter who is sprinting behind a prowler. It's obvious by what is being advertised or promoted whether or not an image is pornographic in any degree. Then there's the feelings it generates in the viewer. If it is creating a "hormonal response" and said base desires then it's likely something one should avoid. We should continually strip ourselves of all ungodliness. Lust is ungodly.

I was more disturbed by anyone viewing the birthing process as a "turn on". I mean I saw my first boys head crown and that was actually very cool, but that's only because, you know, it was my boy.

Perhaps more than would admit, after all, there's such a stigma about breasts here in America (for example) where women are conditioned to cover-up or not nurse at all in public. Why? Because it might cause people to feel uncomfortable because breasts are boobies and boobies are sex toys oh no!

So, in turn, other women will in fact shun a woman who chooses to breast feed uncovered in public because they have learned that it's inappropriate and some are even embarrassed. How sad.

As a convert, I was bought up with a different view of the human body, I grew up in a coastal resort where people went shopping in bikinis and board-shorts! So to me, an uncovered body is not necessarily sexual.

I think so. Before I talked to the missionaries, I was at a female friend's house doing some laundry and helping her with some yard work. My shirt was pretty sweaty, and since I was just about to start another load of laundry, I took it off and tossed it in, not really thinking much about it. (I don't care for going out in public shirtless, but around the house and/or among people I know in an appropriate setting it's never been a big deal. Doing laundry and yard work in Texas heat would normally qualify as appropriate in my book; no point in going home with a bag of clean laundry and one smelly shirt.) I think that was the first time any sober woman has ever looked at me shirtless with that particular expression. (Well, shirtless in long pants; I usually have great calves from cycling and hiking. For the record, my arms and pecs aren't bad, but nothing to write home about, and I've got a mini keg where a six pack ought to be.) It took a while before it occurred to me that, even as a mother of 5 boys, she wasn't used to sweaty guys casually wandering around her yard in just jeans and work boots.

Then again, she also thinks I look like Cary Grant. I think she needs an eye exam.

I think just the opposite. If your mind is pure and clean, then you'll be more sensitive to nudity or suggestive pictures. If it's in the gutter already you might be less sensitized.

As for art, some is porn and some not. I don't really think The David is porn, but it was possibly unnecessary to sculpt him completely nude. On the other hand, I ran across a picture (painted, not photo) on art.com while searching for something for my bathroom wall that was most definitely porn. I had to study it for a bit to even understand what the picture was depicting and once I did I felt sick.

I remember sitting in a woman's home in Argentina with my missionary companion and two elders teaching her a discussion when she whipped it out to feed her baby. Oh, those poor elders! They went bright red in the face. That's just the culture there. But I don't think it's at all bad to cover up when breastfeeding. I appreciate it when other women do. It's simple respect for those around you. I breastfed all 7 of my babies.

That's kind of funny, since most LDS boys would have seen their mothers and other women breastfeeding. It's pretty natural among LDS women, I see it all the time at church, albeit usually concealed under a baby blanket of some kind :)

"soft" porn I believe is generally characterized/rationalized by no or little sex (ie mostly sensual nudity). it causes sin and grief just as effectively as "hardcore".

If you want to teach anatomy get an anatomy book. If the man was really concerned he should have contacted a professional health specialist or fitness trainer.
