Dieter F. Uchtdorf - Saturday am session

Why would anyone join our church?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of the fastest growing churches in the world.

This church was restored in our day by Jesus Christ himself.

Those that join this church love Jesus Christ and wish to follow Him.

When they receive sacred Priesthood ordinances and covenants they feel the spirit of Christ.

The church provides opportunities for doing good.

They want to put their faith into practice. They want to roll up their sleeves and become engaged in this great cause.

Because we have have no paid world wide clergy, our members perform the work of ministry themselves.

Walking the path of discipleship provides great blessings.

Those who follow this path faithfully avoid many of the pitfalls of life.

The search for truth has brought many to the church.

If the gospel is so wonderful, why would anyone leave?

There is not just one reason. There is a variety of situations.

We respect those who honestly search for truth.

We honor their right to worship according to the dictates of their own conscience just as we do.

Sometimes questions arise simply we just don’t have all of the answers. We just need more patience.

Some things that we didn’t understand before, will be resolved to our satisfaction.

The question that creates doubt in some can build faith in others.

Sometimes leaders have simply made mistakes.

The church would only be perfect if it were run by perfect beings.

Imperfect people make mistakes.

It is unfortunate that some have left because of the mistakes of others.

No decision of significance regarding this church is ever made without consulting the Lord.

The church will never allow the drifting of His church.

What about my doubts? It is natural to have questions.

There are few members of the church who have not wrestled with serious or sensitive questions.

First doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith.

None of us are quite as Christlike as we would want to be.

If you expect to find perfect people at church, you will be disappointed.

Come join with us. Come. Come heed the voice of the gentle Christ.

I thought this talk was amazing, not just for the words, but for the reaction. I'm seeing facebook comments from some less active friends that are saying that this is the first time they've seriously considered going to Church regularly in a long time. The Church definitely needs voices like Pres. Uchtdorf right now.

I as well loved this talk. I recently heard a member of the ward council in the ward I attend say "I can tell this woman is struggling because they sometimes where pants to church" and then people wonder why sacrament attendance numbers are so low in our area. I really hope people can learn to embrace those who are different then they are.
