I've found that almost anything advertising itself as "single" is something to avoid.

I'm too old for the YSA ward (yay!), but I look young. So I've been mistakenly invited to it (and events) many many times (I travel for work). Too many hormones & desperation make people annoying. If you're physically their type, they glom on like barnacles. And of you're not, you're shunned. Worse, in a mixed group, both happen at the same time. I've never been a fan of meat markets... So I generally back out and head for the family ward or find something else to do (if its an activity).

Now... There ARE some places where it's "just" single folk doing "orphan" stuff (big group things for fun for those without family nearby) ... Instead of single folk trying to date. Those are okay, in my experience. My general rule of thumb is if the Missionaries and some married couples are invited, then it's not a hormone driven irritation fest.

To be fair... This is NOT just an LDS thing. It's true on any college campus, church, sport, or secular group I've been a part of. So if a group/ event/ etc is labeled "single ______" ... I avoid it. Even though I'm single.

I'd never go to something like that, I mean sure if I wanted my ego stroked or to scare people with dolls, that might be fun but seriously, I'd never attend any sort of singles get together's, just sounds awful to my ears.

Though in reality, I am usually shunned at those sort of functions so I don't have to worry anyways.

Well then I'll know you wouldn't be interested in the facebook page I'm getting ready to start. It has to do with singles (older) but with a different twist to it. :)
