I think I'm getting something...

Either a general feeling of upcoming change, or a more specific one, like you suddenly know or feel that you're going to be called to a certain position soon?

Yes, I get those. It is a gift but unfortunately the feeling comes just before or right after something bad happens like an accident, etc.

I had a strong feeling for several months before I got my last calling and I felt that I was going to be serving in various callings for the rest of my life. When I accepted my call I was told that this was the beginning of many years of heavy church service.

I still am not sure what to think about that.

Okay, it's been about two weeks now since this thought first occurred to me, and it's stuck. It's even stronger than initially, and I'm at the point where I'm actually really excited about it, and itching to get started. But there's no indication that it's going to actually even happen...lol. Would it be really weird for me to ask the bishop to call me as the ward provident living coordinator? Haha!

Let him know you are willing to serve (don't tell him what calling- that would be weird) and see where it goes. I bet he would love to know that there are members willing and ready to serve.

Sometimes my husband says he gets that feeling, then nothing happens. I usually get callings or changes to current calling out of the blue with absolutely no warning. I was recently switched from RS monthly meeting coordinator to primary teacher. Some really weird things happened in association with that change. 1- I had only been in that calling for 6 months. ( I guess I was failing at it because despite my total and 100% effort at it, we hardly ever got many to come.) And 2- One day shortly before the last event we planned that I was in charge of, I had a mini anxiety attack and said outloud to no one in particular as I was alone in my bedroom with no one else home but me, " Ugh! I just wish I could teach Primary instead. " (I wasn't in the attitude of prayer- just expressing my frustration to the air around me.) Less than a week later I was called out of RS to teach Primary. I swear no one heard me except perhaps the Lord or the spirit of my mother who relayed the message??

So Wingnut, just make a wish- outloud to the powers that be, and maybe it will come true. ;)

I have a calling already, that I've been in for less than six months. It's a calling that my bishop created, specifically with me in mind. I'm the "ward fellowship specialist," which basically makes me the official Sacrament meeting greeter and heard-it-through-the-grapeviner (insofar as stuff I learn is of interest to the bishopric). I check in with the bishop and Relief Society president each week and let them know about anyone that I've noticed who hasn't been at church in awhile (of the mostly active folks), or anyone who IS at church that is notable (like a less active person), anything that I know of going on that they should be aware of (a struggling less-active couple who is getting a divorce...a husband whose job has been eliminated by the organization he works for), or that I just have a feeling about that they need to check up on.

I enjoy my calling, and it suits me well -- I'm very social, and I tend to be tapped into the underground news in the ward, so it's a good fit. It also wouldn't be overly demanding or unreasonably time-consuming to add another calling on, particularly such a flexible one as Provident Living.

And 2- One day shortly before the last event we planned that I was in charge of, I had a mini anxiety attack and said outloud to no one in particular as I was alone in my bedroom with no one else home but me, " Ugh! What a neat experience, and how special that you feel your mother was still looking out for you, even from beyond the veil. Thanks for sharing. :)

So, I was extended an additional calling today, but it wasn't provident living. It's a teaching calling. But I was right that something new/more was coming. :)

I clicked the laugh button because getting a calling is a happy thing! Opportunity to grow.

Teaching: No greater call!

Some years ago I felt like the calling of Elder's Quorum President was headed my way. Within a reasonable amount of time the then presiding EQP was released. After that I was still reaching Gospel Doctrine. I thought I was being arrogant to have had such thoughts.

Fast forward a few months after that when a member of the stake presidency spoke. It is not uncommon for men and women to be prompted to feel ready for a calling in which just one person would be called.
