Lakumi
Are you really alone? Is not the Holy Ghost with you, always? But don't bad actions drive it away so it's not always with you, if you live a life doing things it finds sinful?
Guest LiterateParakeet
Are you really alone? Is not the Holy Ghost with you, always? Touche. :) Lakumi, the Holy Ghost has not left me over some much needed swearing. A couple d... uh, nevermind-- let's just say it is a healthy way to express rage. LOL, I know that sounds terrible without "the rest of the story". But I feel at peace with the Holy GHost and the Savior. How can that be? Well, just imagine if Nephi's Sunday School teacher had walked around the corner as he killed Laban...he might have called Nephi to repent, but he would have been wrong. :) All I am saying is sometimes we make judgments without knowing sufficient details. I have been told about things that chase away the spirit, like pornography and whatnotI think the story of Laban isn't the best example because God told him to do that-so it wouldn't have chased the spirit away, am I right? God didn't tell Mr.So and So to watch the porn or steal my bag of chips.Would those things chase the spirit away?
Guest LiterateParakeet
I understand what you are saying (I think) and I agree with you. I meant to use the story of Laban/Nephi as a short hand to my situation. I simply meant that I can see how on the surface people might think I am making excuses, but there is more here than meets the eye. The Savior knows my heart and I am content that He is pleased with me and the progress I am making. I didn't mean to extrapolate the Laban/Nephi story to porn, stealing or other things of that nature. I can't imagine any circumstance where those things would not chase the Spirit away. However, I still think the idea of not judging applies....some people are exposed to porn as children (it is a form of abuse). If they become addicted from that, who are we to judge where they are in their relationship with God? Maybe they are doing better at overcoming it than we could have if we had been put in that situation. Maybe the person stealing your chips is a victim of human trafficking and has not eaten in days. I know those are extreme examples, but I am just saying, we should set a high standard for ourselves and strive to live it--but we should just love others and not judge them harshly because we don't know all the reasons they are the way they are....perhaps they are coping better than we would if we were thrust into the same circumstances. EarlJibbs
So after thinking about this more. I decided to look up our company policy about language and found that "obscene language" is not an acceptable behavior according to the company. I am not a fighter. I generally try to take the path of least resistance to settle qualms or at least not try to start them. especially if I can live with what is going on. It has actually served me well in the past and I do not regret it. But I think I may just cite that piece to my HR and ask that maybe they send a reminder to everyone. Who knows, maybe it isn't as widespread as I believe. I don't listen to all 200 employees. It may just be the departments that I am near. I don't want to point anyone specifically out as of yet (to HR), but I think I will at least start by asking they remind everyone. If nothing changes I will re-visit. I feel a little sad that I only do this because I found it in the policy, but it's just my nature.
Bini
^ Can't you anonymously send a complaint in? If you could do that, then you could go all out on your complaint, holding nothing back of your disgust :) EarlJibbs
