There is a Catholic board where they have a Mormonism forum. I thought I would join. To my surprise I had joined sometime last year; how do they know who signs on, or remember log on. I seldom log off, is this how they know, or is it my computer that remembers?

It is likely set by a cookie that is on your computer. That means it is your computer that remembers.

(Could be wrong, that is commonly how it is done though)

probably have their own server database for accounts, but personal browser "cookies" handle things like automatically logging you in or tracking certain aspects of your activity at a site.
