pam
Everyone loves cuddling with kittens. But there can be a little-known danger lurking behind that furry little face and that innocent-sounding meow: a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii). T. gondii is the most common parasite in developed nations, according toSchizophrenia Bulletin. The cat-carried parasite can infect any warm-blooded species, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates more than 60 million people in the U.S. may have it. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/cat-parasite-toxoplasma-gondii-linked-to-mental-illness-schizophrenia/

Blackmarch
Allergic reactions probably have more affect in general. Heard this about a year ago, it will be interesting to see what happens.
SpiritDragon
I reported this post. Slander of cats is against some rule somewhere. Now we just need to wait for the animal rights activists to cry foul and say that this reporting (even if true) is not bearable to the kittens of the world and should never be spoken of. The kitties didn't choose to be this way and no loving god would make them this way and it is unfair to make any assumptions about kittens being inferior to any other animal (especially dogs). Any further mention of this to anyone is to be exposed as felinephobia and the perpetrator of sharing this malicious information is to be blasted as a bigoted cat hater :) AngelMarvel, Palerider, carlimac and 2 others
mirkwood
I've known about this for 25 or so years. My understanding was that you could only get it handling cat feces.

Traveler
I love animals - but I do not think they are humans or should be treated or in any way thought of as humans. And for the record I happen to love humans more than I love and care about animals. Blackmarch and Dr T

classylady
I've known about this for years too. Pregnant women are cautioned to not change cat litter boxes. I've grown up with cats. We currently have two cats. I most likely am infected with the parasite. mirkwood

classylady
I was cautioned about changing the cat litter box specifically because of the parasite with my first pregnancy and that was over 33 years ago.
