What does it mean to be mormon?

No problem.

I was not accusing you of doing anything contrary to the faith.  I was just pointing to a word and how it would most likely be taken by others not familiar with you or the topic at hand.

And yes, I did get the joke about being Mormon and Mormon...

There's a saying in our church, originally said by one of our modern-day prophets: Come, bring with you all the good and truth which you have received from whatever source, come and let us see if we may add to it.

Do you know who said this? This rocks! I love it.

Wasn't it Pres. Uchdorf?

Thanks. :-)

I heard somewhere we aren't supposed to have favorites, but I can't help it. When I hear his name at GC I'm like "Sweet, here he comes!"

No, it was President Hinckley.

Essence of Missionary Service

“Let me say that we appreciate the truth in all churches and the good which they do. We say to the people, in effect, you bring with you all the good that you have, and then let us see if we can add to it. That is the spirit of this work. That is the essence of our missionary service” (meeting, Nairobi, Kenya, 17 Feb. 1998).  https://www.lds.org/ensign/1998/08/excerpts-from-recent-addresses-of-president-gordon-b-hinckley?lang=eng

I remember Pres Hinckley saying it on the CBS interview with Mike Wallace as well.

I miss that man so much. He was always so cheerful yet also firm when needed.  I just loved him.

I miss him too and I wasn't even a member when he lead the church.

What does it mean to be a Mormon?

I think this is answered in our 4th article of faith:

"We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost."

We are a covenant people.  Believe in Jesus is the first step in becoming one with God, but one must repent and covenant with God through baptism, thereby entering into the body of His church.  Only then are we his sheep and counted as His people.

It sounds like you have 1 and hopefully 2 down, and we invite you to explore and pursue the next steps.
