Heroes -- Need help with lyrics

Ages ago, I came across a song written by a young lady named Christine/Christina Davidson.  It was called "Heroes".  I just can't let it go.  I'd like to put it to paper.  HOWEVER...

It has differing lengths in each verse.  The third is just plain too short. So, I'm trying to figure out some words to fill in the remainder.  And I'd like to have some help.  If anyone here has some modest lyrical talent, I'd welcome suggestions.

The song is in 4/4:

Beat is 70 - 85.

Two measures per line.

Each line has a 1/2 beat pickup before the first beat of the measure.

Here are the lyrics to the best of my memory.

<Spoken during an intro interlude>

Child: Mom, can you tell me a story?

Mom: Sure, what kind of story?

Child: Uhmm.  A hero story.

Mom: Heroes, let me see...

<Singing:>

V1.

What can I tell you, my little one

To help you prepare for the things to come?

How can I teach you the truths you will need?

I turn to the scriptures and read.

And I tell you the stories of heroes long ago,

A different kind of hero than the world now knows.

<Chorus>

Oh, how I wish to arm you with a strong unwavering shield

So that you can be a hero on life's battlefield.

Oh, child, let me tell you what heroes are made of:

Virtue, faith, and honor, integrity, and love.

A hero stands for truth an right. Be gentle, kind, and bold.

And you can be a hero, just like the ones of old.

V2.

With undaunted faith like Nephi, to do as God commands.

Moroni fought for freedom, a strong and mighty man.

Abinadi had honor; faced with death, defended truth.

and Mormon led an army while yet a youth.

<Chorus>

V3.

Two-Thousand Stripling Warriors bravely marched to war.

Valiant and courageous they trusted in the Lord.

<Chorus>

With a typical final repetition and a different ending tune.

I'm thinking that the additional people that could be spoken of are Ammon II.  Gideon (stood up to Nehor).  Jesus Christ.  I'm open to other ideas.

I thought of a few lines with Ammon.  But they are obviously my words and simply don't fit the feel of the original author's words.

Any suggestions?

It would take a while to write the music down.  I can read music fairly fluently.  But my writing such is akin to a second grader's.  It was probably written by someone with an 8th grade level of proficiency.

If you'll forgive the musical immaturity, I can write an approximation.  It would look like a second grader wrote a letter.

I didn't look, but it's probably somewhere on the world wide internet web.

I remember only one hero song.

Billy Don't Be a Hero

I think that's the title.  It was from the Vietnam war era.  Advice to a young soldier to keep his head down, I think.

It's probably out there still, also.

The song is I can be a hero by Cheryl Davidson and is available from her on the website www.cheryldavidsen.com. The song is part of the Gentle Touch album.

Wrong song.  Wrong artist.  But thanks anyway.
