Advertising myself as a Mormon musician. Good? Bad?

If your only concern is developing a strong long lasting fan relationship with members then I would say market yourself as a Mormon musician. If you are just looking for an audience and a fan base I would only mention being Mormon if someone asks you about your religion.

I personally would not listen to a musician just because they are LDS, their music and songwriting has to be good. I have several friends who are song writers and musicians, for the most part they play to a wide audience but if asked, they will mention they are LDS.

I know Jason Deere (of the Nashville Tribute Band), he did not start out as being a "Mormon musician", neither did any of the members of the Nashville Tribute Band. Jason, Brad, and Matt, and the others all started doing their own thing in Country music. Jason co-wrote and wrote a lot of Pop and Country songs and I don't think being Mormon ever came up.
