Well, tell me which room to use, get me a chalkboard, and I'll teach you to говорить по-русски.

Not sure Moscow is how it was when I left, but I'd recommend St. Petersburg, maybe Vladimir-Suzdal, Pereslavl' or some other place over Moscow. :D

Great, now I'm demoted to "whatever"!

And really, it's more like I used to speak Russian.  If I tried hard, and had a dictionary handy, I'm sure I could pick it up again, but it's been a long time.  I recommend you start sooner than later - it's a hard language for most Americans to learn.

I can speak very limited Spanish (essentially, the same as everyone else who took 3 years of it in high school and 4 years in college. Nothing special at all).

Obviously the best way to learn a language is to immerse yourself in it 100% where you have no choice but to speak it for your daily survival. Like on a mission, basically.

If "mammoth" is Russian in origin, it's anglicized because they don't have a "th" sound - nor a letter for it in their alphabet.  "Vodka" is the diminutive of the word for "water" like "Tommy" is the diminutive of Tom. :D  (There's something about the culture for you.)

Ditto the Spanish.

True on immersion, but Russian is so different that I suspect it would help to at least be aware of the rules / structure (which you could note in an hour or two, without learning any of the language)...

1. Mop

2. 5-gallon

3. Old oaken

4. Pail

5. Galvanized

...that's about it really.  I don't want a slop bucket.  Don't have room for an excavator bucket (or an excavator).  No helicopter, so a helicopter bucket would be useless.

So is it oak or galvanized?  You don't galvanize oak.

I know, right?  That's what I told him.  I'd go for #7 over #6.  Jeri Ryan beats Tricia Helfer.

You're not kidding.  Try to find an average American who can properly pronounce Здравствуйте, меня зовут.

Most Americans will wonder why a word begins with a 3.  It's hard to learn a language where you can't even say, "Hello, my name is."

Contrary to Gator's (a-HEM) list, of non-spiritual things, I'm done with my list.

Skydiving
Mountain climbing
Rappelling
5k runs (nope, never did a marathon, nor do I care to)
Parasailing
Disneyland -- though I haven't been to Disneyworld.
Swimming in tropical waters
Slept overnight in an igloo that I made myself
Spelunking
Military obstacle course
Fencing
Run my own engineering firm
Skiing fast enough to give bobsledders a run for their money.
Watersliding down a monster waterslide
Zip-lining
Cliff diving -- Well, ok.  I chickened out and just jumped feet first instead of dived head first.  But it still counts.
Been to at least 30 states -- lived in 6 of them.
Been to five foreign countries
Seen American historical sites in D.C., Philadelphia, Jamestown, The Alamo, West Point, Saratoga, and a few others.
Been to Nauvoo, Adam-Ondi-Ahman, and a couple other places in Missouri which I don't remember the names of (I'm not sure if this counts as non-spiritual).

Married the love of my life and had a passel of the most beautiful children in the world.  At least one will carry on the family name (of five sons, I hope so).  Again, a possible spiritual bucket list item.

---- NEW LIST

Learn the piano well enough to be the ward choir pianist or Billy Joel's Root Beer Rag.
Learn the violin well enough to play accompaniment for the ward choir.
Learn Spanish well enough to quote Don Quixote in Spanish.
Learn French well enough to quote Le Compte de Monte Cristo in French
Learn Russian well enough to quote War and Peace in Russion or to make Zil jealous :P.
Learn German well enough to say ambulance and butterfly so harshly that it sounds like I'm cussing.
Earn a Master's degree.
Be the overall design manager for the building up of the City of Zion in Missouri.  I'm not sure if this counts as non-spiritual or not.

Sorry if this hits the borderline of being spiritual, but I would very much like to visit the Holy Land.  Going on a study tour would be especially awesome.

BTW, I meant Israel, not the Beehive state.  :-)

Forgive me if I've told this one before.

Elder Rosen was from the Holy Land.  But when asked about it he'd say,"I'm from Israel.  But that's not the Holy Land.  Elder Isom is from the Holy Land."

Elder Isom said,"I'm from Salt Lake City.  But that's not the Holy Land.  Elder Hurd is from the Holy Land."

Elder Hurd, where are you from?  "Oh, I'm from Missouri.":D

I have the modest goal of continuing to learn to play the piano, and playing at least one hymn in church.  Then blues and jazz.  I am self-taught, and have found some excellent courses online.
My body is near the "expiration date", so I want to see how far my piano "career" will take me in the next few years.

In a couple of years you may see me on youtube.
