What is your opinion about drones?

That's a good idea.  My paper was about pornography.  It was a bit unsettling to wade in, so to speak, to the other side and try to understand it throughly.  What an interesting experience it was.  And since my class is through BYUI online, how do I "promote" pornography to my teacher?  LOL.  Fortunately, she was very understanding, and when I my bias showed she called me on it. :)

I think most people who don't listen to the other side or who can't handle researching the other side are deeply insecure in their own beliefs. I see it all the time from liberals to conservatives to atheists to believers. You name it. People just break down when asked to read something they don't agree with. More sad than anything else.

That man probably ought to be on suicide watch.

If he follows the usual pattern of other Clinton associates, it probably won't work.  Hard to stop a man determined enough to shoot himself in the back of the head repeatedly.

And he's got a lot of practice from shooting himself in the foot, too.

Is that Aircorp Blue Black?  Always liked their ____/blacks when I was working a job that required black ink, since most of them had just enough color to spot the original among photocopies, without triggering any of the "you're not using black ink" complaints.

No, I just don't have a setup for decent hand-writing photos, so the color isn't terribly accurate (IRL, it's more blue than shown here, and the paper is more white).  It's De Atramentis Steel Blue in a Lamy Al-Star (EF nib) on Mnemosyne paper.  I find that Lamy Al-Star EF nib brings out shading really well (so does the 1.1 stub, it's been too long since I tried the F nib to remember).  That color and Diamine Misty Blue are two of my favorites.  (Misty Blue will shade even in my Pilot Metropolitan fine nib - on Rhodia paper.)

(The Gators are writing with Pilot Varsities, on Apica paper.)

That seems pretty juicy for a Lamy.  I only own one but have observed (and often heard) that they usually tend to be a tad stingy with ink flow.

I've heard the opposite (that Lamy pens are wet, so their inks are dry), but De Atramentis inks are usually wet, and Steel Blue is (not the wettest, but wetter than average).  Also, the line height on that Mnemosyne notepad is only 5mm, so the picture might be deceiving.

Meanwhile: I just love finding fellow fountain pen users all unexpectedly!  One, the odds might account for, but two!? :D

zil started it.  I enabled.... after NG...

... Nevertheless... 3 or more fountain pen nerds in a forum NOT about or relating to fountain pens.... Priceless! :D

This is without a doubt the most complete, thorough and bizarre threadjack I have ever witnessed

What, you didn't realize that some water-based inks could be wetter than others?  Or that some fountain pen nibs are wet and some are dry (though all are made of metal)?  Don't tell me you've never heard of Mnemosyne, Rhodia, Clairefontaine, or Black n' Red!  Shading, halos, and sheen - oh my!

Fresh out of college (BYU) I went to work for the Defense Department.  That was some time ago – over 30 years ago but while working on a number of weapon systems I became familiar with un-maned weapon systems.  Basically there are 4 types of un-maned weapons.  1. What we currently call drones – these are remotely controlled vehicles.  2. Cruise missile systems - These are pre-programmed autonomous weapons.  3. Ballistic missile systems – this includes both intercontinental and submarine launched ballistic missile systems.  4. Orbital weapon systems.

Though I am calling these systems, weapon systems, they can also be thought of as defensive or intelligence gathering systems.  I will admit that I have been out of the technological loop for over 30 years but I thought I would update the forum about old technology that I knew about that can be talked about without security violations.  I would add that I was aware of “other” technology that would allow any powered speaker (stereo, TV or radio) into a listening device – even if the device is turned off.  This means that someone could listen to any conversation taking place in the area or while you are watching your TV or radio.  I am sure this would now include cell phones.

From orbital based systems – 30 years ago we could track people (inferred) and autos – anywhere they travel. We could tell when a car went into a tunnel if a person got in or out of the car.  Optically we could read the marking on the top of a pen someone was wearing in their shirt pocket.  There are 3 different kinds of orbital sensing systems – inferred, optical and magnetic variations (also known as metal detection.   We were working on another system we called Bata wave detection – but that was not working when I left the defense industry.

My point is – the 3D concept of ownership or personal space is an illusion that has not existed since before most on this forum were even born.

Call me Rip Van Winkle, but I just learned about drones.  Sure I had heard of them before, but I didn't really understand what they could do and how often they are used.  (So much to learn, so little time . . . )  I don't have an opinion on them either way.  I mean I feel really torn; there are really good arguments both for and against their usage.  I'm grateful that I don't have to make that decision.  But I'm just curious what you guys think.  My curiosity is two fold: I'm interested in what people think and I'm also curious if the majority will favor one side or the other, or whether opinions will vary.

If anyone happens to be as uneducated on drones as I was here's a video.  It's about an hour long.  There's no need to watch it if you don't want to. :)

we are too indifferent in general as a public to the ethic quandaries of proxy war.
