I suppose partly, TFP IS a internet bully and I did finally have enough of his bully tactics.

@The Folk Prophet and I have had several heated rounds.  But just because he vehemently disagrees with me doesn't make him a bully.  Yes, you need a spine to go toe to toe with TFP.  That's what makes him special.

And this "going to other countries" bit is annoying.  Hey, I'm Filipino descended from both Chinese and Spanish families, working for Germany living in the USA.  I don't use it as a license to be obtuse.  Although I do appeal to English only being my 3rd language to defend my propensity for misunderstanding what TFP says.

I've never made it to the Philippines yet.  I do have relatives and thus connections to Germany though.  It's been awhile since I seriously studied their laws, but they had some zingers too.  I am an avid Axis and Allies fan, but the original box art was one I was told to avoid bringing to Germany by my relatives.  There are some interesting laws and ideas there as well.  Not half as onerous as  many places, and I'd still consider them a free nation (though probably far more socialistic in some ways than the US, not as much as Sweden).

I've only heard rumors about laws in the Philippines, but I've heard as for nations to visit, it's far more modernized then most, and a LOT more like America (as they used to be a part of the US) than most other nations out there.  Supposed to be a nice place, but never had to go there and never vacationed there yet.  Ironically I have a friend who is Japanese, but in Utah and Idaho has been mistaken as a Filipino .  I'm not sure that makes him or Filipinos happy though, I get the idea that there is some tension between the two.  I'm highly ignorant on Filipino culture on my end though.

I like that you used progressives instead of liberals.  We like to call them the alt-left.

Even "progressives" doesn't quite work in literal terms. It's just the name that they seem to have taken upon themselves. "Progressive Mormons".  Maybe "Ark-steadiers" would be a better term - though that doesn't quite cover it either. It's really people who believe, at some level, they're ahead of the prophets. What it really is, which I think is ironically humorous, is people who are self-righteous.

Oh...there's another one for you @estradling75:

And/or self-righteously calling others self-righteous.

I find it funny how often conservative (and I don't mean politically) Mormons -- meaning obedient, faithful, stalwart, prophet-defending, church-going, home-teaching, daily scriptures studying, believing the scriptures, condemning sin, glorying in righteousness and truth, type Mormons -- are called "self-righteous" because they believe in and preach strict obedience. Obedience is not self-righteousness. Obedience is just righteousness. Self-righteousness is the virtue-signalling, holier-than-those-viewed-as-judgmental, in line with what's popular or legal and therefore superior, sympathy and tolerance are more important than obedience and truth because 'feelings', humility is for suckers, I-know-better-than-the-prophets-ism. In other words, it manifests in those who are out there calling conservative Mormons self-righteous.

The terms conservative and liberal when referring to Mormonism have nothing to do with politics, but it makes sense that when one speaks of conservative or liberal Mormons that others take it to mean politically conservative or liberal people who happen to be Mormons. So the terms get muddied and confusing.

Especially since a lot of these people stem their attitudes from social justice which has now become politically weaponized.  We can't even just simply talk about caring for refugees without it becoming a political debate.

Here's my once-in-a-long-time-since-posting response to this entire thread:

1. Homosexuality is a sin (are we all agreed upon that?)

2. The church does NOT need more sinners! The church needs more people who want to live sin-free lives. President Nelson made a great remark in GC last month, basically saying that the desire to change and live a sin-free life does not mean that we can live sinful lives because we desire to live differently. Yes, I understand that everyone sins, just in case you think I'm saying that you have to be perfect if you go to church. I'm saying that the statement that we need more sinners is another way of accepting those sins, so the person feels more comfortable and church attendance goes up. Ridiculous.

3. The doctrines of the church are not based upon popularism.

4. Every sin is bad, period. Stop saying that some are more acceptable than others (you know who you are)!

5. The Lord says, "Love thy neighbor" not "Join in thy neighbor's sin, so you can be more accepting." For crying out loud! See my #1 response. Nothing I do will ever celebrate this sin. We are to avoid the very appearance of sin, so stop saying that I have to go to my friend's, son's, daughter's, cousin's, whatever, gay wedding so appear to be more accepting and loving. No, Jesus would not do it either. If I recall, he got quite upset at the money-changers in the temple.

6. In America, we have the right to speak freely, so stop citing stupid facts about what is acceptable or not acceptable to say in other countries.

7. If you disagree with anything I wrote, I'll call you a bully.

8. I could go on but I have better things to do than to argue about being more accepting. And for the record, if anyone says that I'm not being accepting, you have absolutely no knowledge of how well I get along with others. It doesn't mean that I have to accept their stupid choices.

9. Bye.

"You got any cash Hollywood?"

(I was going to quote Biff Tannen but I cannot say his trademark "What are you looking at . . . " in full without being nervous about breaking the site terms of service!)

Bet you didn't know the actor who plays Ice is a Mormon!  He went on a mission a year after Hocus Pocus came out.

Haha, that's awesome! We love that movie. Been a tradition to watch it every Halloween since it came out. Where did he serve?

His name is Larry Bagby, and he went to Argentina.

Presumably with a different haircut.
