At times I hear a yell during a talk.  Are there protestors who come in or is it members who are displeased with something specific said?  Are they escorted out?

Its protesters that somehow get in. Yes, I believe they are escorted out.

A couple of additional facts that the always-stellar SLC media don’t bother to tell you are that this “woman” is a transexual; and “Crystal Legionaires” is apparently a pseudonym.

Unconfirmed internet rumors also suggest he managed to sneak a bullhorn into the meeting.

I actually found the last session to be a bit irreverent.  When the new temples were being announced I thought people were about on the verge of applauding.  Really unorthodox.

The laughter at the Layton, UT temple, I can understand.  And even some surprise about the one in Russia, ok.  But all the others seemed like there was a competition of "oohs" and "ahhs".

Maybe I'm just getting to be an old man.  But that really didn't seem appropriate.

I don’t necessarily disagree; but President Nelson rather seemed to be enjoying it. ;)

Maybe someday we’ll hear the “hosanna shout” as an actual shout rather than a chant.

It didn't bother me, either.  I don't have a history with the Church and I spent a lot of time as a Baptist.  Baptists yell a lot.

There are some things that are not done in a chapel.  As Pam mentioned, it is different when in your own home.  But the chapel is supposed to a place where standards of decorum and reverence are the goal.  I personally see the conference center when used in such an ecclesiastical setting to have similar rules of decorum.

But apparently, I'm just a throwback to older times when people cared about such things.

Now get off my lawn.

i completely get where you are coming from.  I think there are times when you are spot on.  I think there are other times when worship is joyous, not solemn.  It's also tough to hold that standard when many of the talks from Apostles had specific laugh lines in them.

Yes, the laughter is an interesting thing.  I'm certain Catholics would feel as shocked at our laughter as I felt about the cheering.  But the rule there is "loud laughter".  This is the kind of raucous, boisterous laughter that borders on screaming.  Light laughter is still fairly common.  And in a venue as large as the conference center, one might imagine that "light laughter" from so many would still seem loud.  But it wasn't boisterous.

BTW, I was joking about getting off my lawn.  I just had to express how old I'm getting.

I think it's funny that every conference the news covers the "several hundred" sometimes even reported as a thousand protestors who march to Temple Square, and officially resign from the church.  I swear, they must have resigned 10 or 20 times by now.

You are sooo right!

My kids already do enough damage to my lawn.  One son just bought a croquet set.  Another son plays with his dog. My princess practices her archery all the time.  Well, I guess that's just aeration.

Perhaps I am not as attentive as I once thought, but I do not recall seeig any protesters around other Christian Tele-conventions.  I guess now they're called "tele-evangelists", and it's really not too different.  Except with all those I saw as a kid, you never heard anything about protesters.  What are they protesting?  The freedom of choice?  The liberty of deciding which church one wishes to follow?  What church *I* go to does not affect them in any capacity.  It's none of their business.

Care to share just how you know this?  And is there something else you're not telling us?

Yeah.  I have a Facebook account, and so does “Crystal Legionaires”.  And his/her privacy settings are set to “public”—or were, earlier this afternoon.

I had that impression that Crystal Legionaires was a transwoman when they did the interview with her on TV.  It was just my impression though.  Almost nothing could confirm it on the web that I could find (but I did find a debate essay by what seemed to be her in regards to Weber State in which several terms utilized frequently by the Transgendered/Transexual community popped up) which seemed to support my first impressions.  My tech level is not that high, though, so most likely others did better jobs at findng the information.  I did tell my wife I strongly felt that she was a Transwoman.

I do not know the backstory for Crystal, but it may be that there was a bad experience with LDS leaders earlier in her life.  I agree with her statement that sexual predators should not have support in the LDS church (and officially they do not).  I am a little different than she is on her statements that she wants ALL to be treated fairly and equally (if I remember what she told the press).  I agree on the blanket idea of it, but I think there is a hidden inference that this also applies to changing church policies in regards to Gay Marriage and Transsexual operations, which are items I do not agree with changing in regards to church policy at this time.

I believe everyone should be treated fairly and equally.  There is a difference between being treated equally and having special treatment.
