I wasn't aware that...

I learned something the other day that took me by surprise, though perhaps it shouldn't. I was listening to President and Sister Nelson's Message to the Youth in which we were told:

Quote

"My dear young brothers and sisters, these surely are the latter days, and the Lord is hastening His work to gather Israel. That gathering is the most important thing taking place on earth today. Nothing else compares in magnitude, nothing else compares in importance, nothing else compares in majesty. And if you choose to, if you want to, you can be a big part of it. You can be a big part of something big, something grand, something majestic!....

I didn't know this. Did you?

Now that we know this, how should we answer and respond to the follow-up question

Quote

....My question tonight to every one of you...is this: Would you like to be a big part of the greatest challenge, the greatest cause, and the greatest work on earth today?

Thanks, -Wade Englund-

Who is the most important prophet for our day?

Quote

“The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet. … God’s revelations to Adam did not instruct Noah how to build the ark. Noah needed his own revelation. Therefore, the most important prophet, so far as you and I are concerned, is the one living in our day and age to whom the Lord is currently revealing His will for us. Therefore, the most important reading we can do is any of the words of the prophet … contained each month in our Church magazines. Our marching orders for each six months are found in the general conference addresses, which are printed in the Ensign magazine. … Beware of those who would pit the dead prophets against the living prophets, for the living prophets always take precedence.”

I am not seeing any conflict with President Harold B. Lee (past prophet) and President Russell M. Nelson (living prophet).

Lol the beautiful part about our gospel is that every activity can be connected to most commandments.

Gather Israel:

- family history

- Missionary Work

- Ministering

- FHE

- Raise a righteous family

Raising your family:

- family history

- Teaching kids to do Missionary Work

- teaching kids to Minister

- FHE

- Teach children to assist in gathering Israel

We have the greatest opportunity in world history to find the lost tribes of Israel, as we are now a global church, and ever expanding to countries that are hostile to religion.  The church has worked long and hard fostering relationships with these countries.  I can't think of any other time where we had some much influence than right now.  I believe president Nelson is thinking of China, just as we once thought of East Germany, a country where we had a temple before the Berlin wall fell.

Another way to make @Fether's salient point is to understand that the most important PLACE in which the most important THING is to be affected (i.e. gathering) is in the home. In other words, it is very important that the gathering begin and end in the home. After all, the gathering, as with the whole of the gospel, is all about eternal families, and ultimately bringing them back home to their Heavenly Father.

Stay active in the Church. Serve a mission. Listen to the Prophet. Be prepared for a call-out by the Prophet. Heed the call when it comes. You will gather many to Zion.

If you choose to stay in Babylon, you will miss gathering to Zion.

Fixed that for you.  There is no callout as taught by the tent city crowd.  President Nelson (the most recent refutation to the callout) just stated in the devotional to the youth (Hope Of Israel):

"When we speak of the gathering, we are simply saying this fundamental truth: every one of our Heavenly Father’s children, on both sides of the veil, deserves to hear the message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. They decide for themselves if they want to know more."

No call out, Lehi! Jerusalem will never fall!

I've read those words somewhere before...

I'm not one of the cool kids. I don't know what the tent city crowd is. What is this "call-out" of which you speak? Like, those called to pack their handcarts and walk to Missouri?

Some folks believe the prophet will soon call all the saints to leave their homes and go live in tent cities in the rocky mountains for like a year or something.

These folks tend to believe it will happen pretty soon.  Many of them are actively preparing for it. Occasionally someone will have a dream about it - you can occasionally find them talking of visions and prophetic dreams backing up the notion.  Some of them believe the initial stages have started, and our bishops are in the final stages of preparation before the call is announced.  Did you hear that?  Is that your phone ringing?  It might be your bishop, letting your family know you should be packed and on the road by tomorrow evening.

Dood named Roger K Young has been a past figurehead of this group.  (He might still be, I stopped paying attention 5 years ago.)  His "Another Voice of Warning" forum is apparently a pretty cool place, but I don't know, because you have to pay money to have an account there.   Back a dozen or so years ago, the AVOW folks started actually producing official dates for the callout to happen.  The first date passed.  Then the second.  Then the third.  There may have been others - as I said, I stopped paying attention.

I have never seen anyone make a dent in these people.  The passed dates didn't do it.   Bishop/Stake President/Area Authority/General Authority statements calling the whole notion a bunch of hogwash doesn't dent them.  Heck, the mormonleaks stolen powerpoint where the apostles got a briefing on the church's emergency preparadness efforts, is either being ignored or rejected by these folks.

Anyway, occasionally someone who believes stuff like this, makes their way here.  David1c might very well be one of them.   If he is, you can continue to expect absolutely nothing to dent him.  That sort of zeal just is bulletproof.   I wish I could grab that zeal and turn it into a fabric - it's probably stronger than kevlar.

Nice passive aggressive response.  The callout is a false philosophy.

Oh come one Mirkwood, there is a Jerusalem in Austrailia, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, Mexico (All other Central and South American countries), Canada, Alaska, Greenland, Iceland, and many others who will have to purchase a plane ticket, pack their bags (or pack bags and then purchase a plane ticket), fly to Zion's airport, and then drive the rest of the way, or stay in their individual Babylons (this includes Utahns).

Or, I assume the counsel in scripture to "strengthen the stakes of Zion" might have some merit. ;)

All I know, when the continents come together again, I want to be on the edge of Florida riding my continent surfboard until the gentle kiss of continents begins.

The best part of talking to this crowd (for me) is when they proceed to tell me how I am not prepared...blah blah blah...I don't know anything about the last days...blah blah blah...I don't know the prophecies of the calamaties...blah blah blah....
